iPhone 4 Internet running slow on 3G?

Anyone else having this problem? It's working pretty good for me right now but for most the day it has been loading pretty slow or mostly not at all even though I have full service. Is it the phone or is it AT&T?

I'm having this problem. (Coincidentally, I also live in SLC.)

I've noticed this issue in various places around the city where I would have had no problems with my iPhone 3G. Since getting my new iPhone 4, I can have full bars on 3G and not be able to send or receive data over the Internet. I can place and receive calls and text messages but not use the Internet. Sometimes a little trickle of data comes through, but invariably, things time out. I can't even do really small things like update the weather app or sync my Kindle bookmarks.

But this doesn't seem to be happening to me 100% of the time. When I got home, I tried to show my wife that I couldn't use the Internet, and that's when it decided to work. I had to disable WiFi on my phone so it wouldn't try to use my wireless router by default. 3G worked. (My house is a bit north of SLC, so it could be geographical.)

My internet is super slow over 3G network as well...As I'm writing this I tried going to Google and it took over a minute and now a message just came up saying the follow: " Cannot Open Page - Safari could not open the page because the server is not responding". NOT GOOD; At home I am on Wi-Fi and there isn't that big of an issue. I am not sure why this is happing to so many people. I never had this happen with any of my previous iPhone's(and I have owned all of them since the 2G). I am disappointed with all the glitches but this is the first iPhone that I have preordered and have had from day one. Has it always been like this??? Are there any answers now to fix this...I reset the network settings and it did not help at all...

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Daniel

Same thing here. Fine at home, terrible at work where it USED to be fine with my 3GS (and still is with other people's). EXTREMELY irritating. More so than holding it wrong. I can put it on my desk and it just trickles data, IF it connects at all. Big issue. Definitely unique to the 4.

I am very concerned that they may never fix it, and because I tried to be proactive about things I sold my 3GS 3 weeks ago.

Love the phone even with every OTHER issue. This one will be tough to live with (and I'd bet really tough to fix... they can't tell me to get a case or hold it a different way...).

It's worse than dialup, and it used to be fine (3GS)

Yuck

Yeah, there's another big thread about this too. Mine did this the first day, then it was sooooooo fast for like the next two days. Now it's back to this crap.

Apple/ATT should really first stand up and say that 1. THERE IS AN ISSUE 2. THEY'LL HAVE IT FIXED BY FRIDAY!!

Their silence is arrogant, annoying and frustrating. Oh well, still have 20 something more days to return this thing. Don't want to, but I will...

😟

All this 3g lagging and slow downs has to do with the iPhone 4 antenna reception issue...I've notice this issue myself too; when I don't touch the metal part, it's blazing fast. But when I touch and hold metal part, the 3G service is either super slow or times me out. The ironic thing is that the 3G reception bars shows as full 5 bars but really isn't. The metal has to be covered with some type of rubber or plastic. Works for me!

I'm not sure if this will help anyone else but I did two hard resets in a row. I have a 3gs I was comparing it to. Before hard resets, these were the results on 3G on both phones laid flat on a table pointed in the same direction.

3GS - Download - 1705kbps
Upload - 202kbps

Iphone 4 - Download - 61kbps (yes 61)
Upload - 152kbps

After two hard resets on the iphone 4

3GS - Download - 1249kbps
Upload - 94 kbps

Iphone 4 - Download - 1654kbps
Upload - 109kbps

These were my results. I'm not sure if this was co-incidence but its worth a try.

Same problem here. I think we all screw up by Apple iphone4. Please take a deep breath to share my *"iphone love story"*

My new iphone 4 has all problem you can find here. After few days fight with it, searching for help. And then to the last step I went to AT&T store when I had the phone. I toss the phone on table and say *"I want my money back now"*

After they listen to all problem I had with the phone: No signal bar, No/or extremly slow 3G when I inside my house(I do have bumper cover)I only use my phone when I go outside(driveway) as soon I step inside so signal gone.....Even my house right on center of town(not in the wood like Tarzan Boy)and just 5 min from AT&T store.

They say Okay, with 10% restock. I say" Hey look, this is a sh..t ipoop" Not my fault. I tole them If there is no problem with the phone and I want return, so that could be 10% restock. Then they say Apple have problem with iphone4, and tell me wait for Apple recall their product.

So now I am back with my loving iphone 3GS.

I'm also having the same issues...At home on WiFi I don't seem to have any problems...but the past 3 nights at work the internet pretty much does not work at all...or any apps such as twitter, facebook, etc...and I cannot get into the app store either...or it lets me in then I get an error when I try to do something. If this is an issue with the software then Apple needs to do something about this ASAP as I am paying for a data plan that cannot be used.

I'm having the same issue, but with wifi and the Edge network (I don't have 3G in my area). I ran a test between my old 3G, and my new iPhone 4. The internet is much faster on the 3G (even though everything else is slower). It took longer to open an email on the 4 than it did on the 3G, and even then, the formatting was messed up when it opened on the 4. It loaded fast and fine in the 3G though. I don't know if this has something to do with the antenna bands or what, but I hope there will be a fix for it soon. I don't like paying $200 for new tech and then finding out it's got issues with the number one thing I use it for.

to me there could be 3 possible causes...

1. att network's 3G...in the way it communicates with Iphone 4s (my Iphone has always shown full 3g signal but download is much slower than my old sony ericsson)
2. software issue...apple will eventually fix it...
3. hardware issue in some Iphone 4s in which case we are all doomed.

Now att or apple....pls acknowledge the problem so we can get on with our lives!
