Iphone 4 Battery life Terrible (34 hours standby?)

Have I got a defective Iphone? I have turned off all notification on the phone, i left wifi and 3g turned on with only 1 exchange account on phone set to push. I tested the phone out (as I thought it had terrible battery life) and after a full 100% charge, i put it on standby, unplugged it and went to sleep. When i woke up 9 hours later 74% battery life remaining. How is this acceptable? its nearly 10x less power efficient then the Apple website claims. That coupled with antenna problem etc im not sure if im keeping this product, it seems defective to me, which is a shame as I love Iphone... but this battery is FAR FAR worse then the 3G i sold it for.

P.S. where i live in with perfect signal, so the power drain is not caused by weak network signals.

HELP and ADVICE PLEASE!!!!

I too have been having this problem for a few weeks now. But I've also had the phone for a few months, and the battery life was great in the beginning. The degradation wasn't a gradual thing, it pretty much came on all at once. Pretty much overnight, the phone (on standby, screen off) started discharging at a rate more akin with talk time than standby time.

Push is off. I've turned off 3G and wifi, no help. I've learned how to "shut down" all open apps (double click home, tap&hold app icons, then close them one by one) but even after I do that, and do a hard reset (hold both home and power buttons for a few seconds) and boot back up fresh, I still can't get enough battery life for the phone to last one day on standby, and the phone gets hot as it discharges, even just laying on the desk not being used.

Here's what I've also noticed: there's a "stutter". For example, if I open my contacts and scroll through them, the scrolling action is no longer smooth like it once was. It "locks" up about the rate of three times per second, at a pretty even rate. And when I'm in the phone app, the interface is unresponsive unless i keep tapping a certain button or recent call entry. So I really think my issue is related to a constantly working processor.

I guess I'm going to have to try a Restore before I head to the Apple Store. That scares me.

I had this happen to my phone once. I can usually go a couple days at most before needing recharge, even with everything on all the time (WiFi, BT, push, etc.), but over these two days, my phone would drain from 100% to dead in only a few hours and be hot too. I killed all the background apps and uninstalled any recent ones I got and that fixed it. The bad thing is I don't know what specific app(s) could have been doing this. So I definitely think some app was using up the CPU, which would also explain the stuttering you have.

Apple even contacted me and put me on some "Battery Life Logging" profile, but I was never able to reproduce it.
