Iphone 4 Battery life Terrible (34 hours standby?)

Have I got a defective Iphone? I have turned off all notification on the phone, i left wifi and 3g turned on with only 1 exchange account on phone set to push. I tested the phone out (as I thought it had terrible battery life) and after a full 100% charge, i put it on standby, unplugged it and went to sleep. When i woke up 9 hours later 74% battery life remaining. How is this acceptable? its nearly 10x less power efficient then the Apple website claims. That coupled with antenna problem etc im not sure if im keeping this product, it seems defective to me, which is a shame as I love Iphone... but this battery is FAR FAR worse then the 3G i sold it for.

P.S. where i live in with perfect signal, so the power drain is not caused by weak network signals.

HELP and ADVICE PLEASE!!!!

I have the exact same issue as the thread starter.
First I thought it was me who was playing too much around. But yesterday I completely charged it to 100% and also went to bed. This morning it was down to 61%. This is a 39% loss in 10hrs just by lying on the desk.
I did not deactivate any push since it is not how the phone is supposed to be used. But even my old iPhone 2G had a much better performance.
This is really annoying and I am considering sending the phone back. However I hope that someone comes up with a bright idea...

Google push seems to be the cluprit, found many people with the same problems (although i didn't notice it anywhere near as bad with the 3G.) Apparently people have had it on the 3gs though, google push seems to cain the battery like nothing else, even when not using the phone. Are you using google push over exchange or another email client? apparently other push email's such as mobile me and yahoo don't have the problem, so its a google problem?

I don't think it is Google Push - since I am not using it. I only have MobileMe Push and my university exchange account installed.
Other people told me to restore the phone and after that set ist up as a new phone instead of using the backup which I am doing right now. It is a bit of a pain because I ahve to set up everything from scratch buy maybe it helps. People told me it has been a known issue on new 3GS iPhones.

My battery life seems even worse than that.

I charged the phone to 100% before I went to bed, 9hrs 55 minutes later and after 27 minutes of recorded "usage" (only replying to a few SMS messages) the phone had lost almost 50% battery. I have 3G turned off however I do have a google account with push but i'm not sure this is culprit.

I was out for the day yesterday for around 12 hrs & the phone only just survived, got back home with 8% battery remaining after less than 2 hrs usage, however I turned Wifi & 3G off and set all email accounts to Manual, the battery drained just as fast.

I've been running the dev version of iOS 4 on my 3G since it was first released, ok no multitasking on it but at least i could rely on it.

Oh, I also kept multitasking apps down to a minimum yesterday to try and eliminate the potential affect of them, made no difference.

I'm currently restoring the phone so i'll try somebody's suggestion of running it down and charging it from a wall, if all else fails it'll be going back to the apple store.

My iphone 4 was set up by apple, aka it was set up as a brand new phone, no transfers from my 3G as i wanted it a clean slate, so i can state that that's not my problem, and i bet its not yours! I have tried turning off push email, and put my phone in standby, its been just under 2 hours and still at 100%. problem solved? Well if push is the problem, it's not really problem solved, it's more a case of problem found. Could you other guys with huge battery problems even on standby try disabling push email, charge your battery to full and see how it progresses to help confirm or disprove what I've found?

oh so thats not a solution for you. Odd. maybe you have a different issue to me, let me know how your restore goes, if it solves the problem!

Turn off ALL push and see what you get. Turn off location services and see what you get. The Apple web site has other suggestions on improving battery life. And I probably wouldn't believe the 74% figure. Time it to 0% maybe.
