Iphone 4 Battery life Terrible (34 hours standby?)

Have I got a defective Iphone? I have turned off all notification on the phone, i left wifi and 3g turned on with only 1 exchange account on phone set to push. I tested the phone out (as I thought it had terrible battery life) and after a full 100% charge, i put it on standby, unplugged it and went to sleep. When i woke up 9 hours later 74% battery life remaining. How is this acceptable? its nearly 10x less power efficient then the Apple website claims. That coupled with antenna problem etc im not sure if im keeping this product, it seems defective to me, which is a shame as I love Iphone... but this battery is FAR FAR worse then the 3G i sold it for.

P.S. where i live in with perfect signal, so the power drain is not caused by weak network signals.

HELP and ADVICE PLEASE!!!!

Iphone 4, iOS 4

Hi, are you talking about 3G and or WiFi networks?
To my mind:- I have everything ON..(thats why I bought the iPhone4, if itz there use it")
With everything On and about the same usage as my 3G phone -> after 15hours indicator shows 33%.
Is this good or bad? who knows, media hype is just as bad for the iPhone4 as for the Prius!!!
I have never met anyone who can actually get the 50MPG as per the hype, probably the same with the "4" - maybe they lock them away in a sealed air conditioned room ~ Prius (tick over/weak mixture)
iPhone4 (everything OFF & no signals in or out) -- maybe? Anyway the "4" works for me...L

Not sure what resetting the network settings does other than forget any wifi networks!

14minutes of usage (web browsing this forum) and 41m of standby with push turned off and no non-standard apps running = 95% battery. Brightness is under 1/3rd too.

Looks like a restore didn't make a difference

I think it also resets the mobile network settings not just wifi

Drain the battery down a few cycles and I bet on the 3rd or 4th cycle you better battery performance. I've own iPod nanos, iPod touches and iPhones. When I first got all of the products new, the battery life wasn't that great the first week, but I was given the advice to drain the battery a few cycles and then the battery life would be much improved. On all of the products, my battery life improved dramatically after the 3rd or 4th cycle, so I'm positive I know what I'm talking about.

Same here, got 2 on luanch day. My wife's seems to work fine. Right now she has 22 hours on standby and like 3 hours of usage and her battery is still at 68%. Mine? Not even close to that. I tried resetting, and starting over as a new phone. Was plugged up all last night, unplugged...92% bleh.

so are you saying that even after a full reset you still had a significantly worse battery life then your wifes? I think that quality control could be the key here then, Im going to wait to see if an update is released tom for the antenna issue before i reset it, but when i'm going to try the long painful process of app at a time and see if i can locate what eats 1/4 of my battery in stanby in just over 1/4 of a day. Also to note is even with mild usage (44 minute call and light browsing my phone went from full charge to 10% over 3 hours of usage, and 1 hour of standby. Thats horrendous, and i cant stress enough how this phone will have to be sent back, replaced if i cant solve the issue. my battery even after turning everything off seems to go down about 2% every 40 minutes with no use. Grrrr, im wasting so much time trying to solve Apples phones. All this ******** about

Dont buy microsoft, with all its bugs
Buy apple which "just works" and get on with what you need to do.

Great hardware, great design and great OS seem to be hampered by many serious bugs/ inconsistencies and problems. The crazy thing is, media reports still question the validity of all the problems iphone 4 is having, like we're all making this up!!!! WHY WOULD WE WASTE OUR TIME!!!! god..... anger mode off.

Just got to wait to fully empty the battery now to see if that helps.

I reset the network settings, which reset my phone. Per hour of standby im still lossing 2% of battery every 50 mins (up from 2% every 40 mins, bt not by much) I havne used my phone for 10 mins (light use no calls) and the rest was standby (3 hours) and its at 78% so its basially TERRIBLE. cant wait till it runs out of battery so i can see if thats the problem. I doubt it. Highly dissapointed. Basically if i use this phone, it will not last a full day at the office, it lasts about 3 hours, and if i dont use it, at all, with everything turned off it looks like it might just about last a day. It does appear faintly warm generally all the time, im sure there is an issue with the battery or some software glitch thats running the battery all the time, but ive turned everything off!!! argh!

I'm having the same issue with short battery life too, among other problems. If I don't turn everything off except for Edge when I go to sleep, the phone drains about 25% during the night. With everything off, it's more like 10%. Either way, it's absolutely ridiculous. I ust upgraded from my old iPhone 2g, which had far greater battery life in comparison... I set my phone up as a new one, so that's not the issue. I'll try resetting the network settings, and I'll be good about fully discharging/charging it several times to see if there's any improvement. I really hope there is, because right now I'm incredibly disappointed.

My iphones nearly out of battery so its been on for 11 hours, it has been used for 2 hours light usage, and i just used games to Cain the battery a bit. Funny thing is, my iphone seems to use as much battery at night when its on standby, as when im flicking around the screen checking settings, phone book, calender etc etc. Going to let it run dry, then format it and set it up as new (it was a new iphone 4 and i set up as new at first.) Im going to run the phone without ANY email apps etc being set, so just phone calls and internet to see how it runs naturally. I Want to know if perhaps its processes running in the background from applications that shouldn't be there eg apps with push etc. I live in hope. Please keep posting on this question, i want to know if anything you do helps the problem. I will post whether a battery deep cycle plus setting as a new phone means my phone wont use over quarter of its battery while in standby while i sleep.

My battery life is fantastic. I charged my battery to 100% before bed 8 hours later I had seven minutes of use (push notifications on, 3 email accounts set for hourly fetch) and 100% battery.

WOW! thats amazing. I have just reset my phone, aka fresh with nothing installed. Its charging from a deep cycle (ran down till the phone closed.) Im charging it from the wall for a faster, better charge then USB. Fingers crossed when its at 100%, and i put it into standby, there is still above 95% when i wake up 7 hours later. And considering i have NO programs, have 5 bars reception, no push etc i should get as close to 300 hours standby as possible according to apple, which would mean more like having 97% battery left after 7 hours standby. I could live with the phone only lasting a week on standby mind. Just pray it doesn't loose 26% like last night! Kee the posts coming in, let me know if you also have good battery life to, It's nice to get an idea how many have issues with the iphone, as i guess only people with problems generally look around the forums!
