Iphone 4 Battery life Terrible (34 hours standby?)

Have I got a defective Iphone? I have turned off all notification on the phone, i left wifi and 3g turned on with only 1 exchange account on phone set to push. I tested the phone out (as I thought it had terrible battery life) and after a full 100% charge, i put it on standby, unplugged it and went to sleep. When i woke up 9 hours later 74% battery life remaining. How is this acceptable? its nearly 10x less power efficient then the Apple website claims. That coupled with antenna problem etc im not sure if im keeping this product, it seems defective to me, which is a shame as I love Iphone... but this battery is FAR FAR worse then the 3G i sold it for.

P.S. where i live in with perfect signal, so the power drain is not caused by weak network signals.

HELP and ADVICE PLEASE!!!!

My iPhone 4 battery went from 100% charge to 43% in 90-minutes - It was only in standby mode. The phone became VERY HOT, especially around the edges. I called Apple Care and they said "Do not use the phone because it could be hazardous" and advised I go to an apple store. I did, and they exchanged it. While I was there, someone else was there exchanging their phone for the same reason - They have a secret stash in the back in small black boxes, just for this reason. Anyway, the phone rep at Apple confirmed to me that there is a battery issue with the new phones.

My phone was also hot, maybe the third day, but I never got the temperature warning. I know there is a relationship between getting too warm and battery loss.

to sansquantch, make an appt at the genius bar online by going through the apple site - at the bottom is a locate stores option. With the i4 problems (and I do love the screen), you must have an appt. Don't know about whether to bring everything but to be safe, I would. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I have absolutely no problems whatsoever. This phone is amazing! At least mine is. I am sorry to hear that so many of you are having problems. I haven't charged my battery in 2 days, and I have push on, wifi on and full bright screen and I have about 35% battery power. I will put it on the charger tonight. I usually throw it on a charger every night, so battery life is really no issue unless I am traveling and gone for a time where I can't plug in.

I hope everyone that is having problems, gets there issues resolved right away, because this is the best phone I have ever owned. It's mind blowing!

My battery life was really bad the first and second day. I took some advice from here and drained the battery till it shut off then charged the phone up to 100% with the wall charger. It is now sooo much better! I have been using the phone heavy all day long 6am - 10:30pm, and I have only used 60% of the batter. Much improved after draining and recharging the battery!

Mine has been better than my 3G. I charged it all night but I shut it off when I go to bed. I am on 3 hours 30 minutes usage and 14 hours standy and I am 51%. My 3g would have been dead by now. I had to have a backup battery case for it. I don't have blue tooth or push on. I just manually check for email when I want to. As long as it gets me through the day I am happy. The first day I used it a lot, but didn't check usage and it was on from 5 am to 7 pm and I was down to 15%. The second day it only went down to 40% in lighter usage. I will try and run it down farther tonight so it will take a deeper charge. Not sure why anyone would want 300 hours of standby. The phone is to be used and even with light usage you probably can't make it two days without a charge. I've always charged mine up every night and left it on the charger.

Left the phone on charge last night as it was getting very late and still only at 30%. Put the phone on standby when i woke up, just under 2 hours later peeped at the screen for the first time when someone tried calling me. 97%, so it had lost 3%in just under 2 hours in standby.. aka >50 hours of standby if the icon is correct. Shame i couldnt have tested it for longer or over night to get a more accurate representation of battery usage. Have put it back into standby now will check again in 6 hours if no one calls or texts. Currently its on 96% with 2 hours standby inc. 1 min use.

This is with NO apps installed, so no PUSH, no exchange email, no bluetooth, and only one email account set the fetch manually. AKA NO FETCH!

this is as bare bones as you can get when in standby surely, without turning of wifi and 3g which i have no intention of ever doing (unless apple made it an easy rocker button on the home screen or similar.

I was experiencing the exact same problem. I think my calculations put my standby time between 29 and 34 hours also. I recalibrated the battery, no luck. Restored the phone, no luck. Called Apple tech support and told the that I would lose like 30+% of my battery over night and like 2% while on the phone with them (not using the iPhone for the call!), and they set me up with an appointment at my local Apple store. I went in, they ran a diagnostic on the phone, apparently witnessed the extremem battery drain and replaced the phone. I brought it home, restored it with my backup and fully charged it. Used it down to about 82% power and went to sleep. I purposely did not plug it in over night to charge to check the drain, and woke up this morning with 79% power left after 6 hours!! WAY WAY WAY better than what the original phone was getting. I'm thinking there was some bad run of batteries in there. What makes me think that is I had the phone shipped to me, and instead of having an initial charge out of the box, it was stone dead...

Hope this helps and good luck!

I can confirm along with cadstypesh that when I received my phone (In-store pickup here in the UK) that the phone was stone dead, whereas some of my friends collected theirs and had 90%+ of battery

I've tried everything, recalibrating the battery, restoring etc. Woke up again this morning to it totally dead, currently trying a wall charge but if that doesn't work i'll trek up to an apple store tomorrow.

So annoying

Called them, told them there was an issue, going to stick with it for another 2 days to see if any improvements but have started a case and have a case ID etc with them. Was reading on another forum, some peoples quotes on usage are unreal, and then the next quote has the same problem as me. Considering i have everything on my phone turned off, no apps, no push not fetch , no exchange it makes me feel that there must surely be a dodgy batch of iphone batteries out there. NO comment in the press yet, its all about the antenna, but this problem seems much more serious to me as the phone cant hold a charge.

4 hours standby 1 min use, 89%. Oh dear. The iphone 4 is broken. It uses battery at an alarming rate in standby, pretty much the same speed as when using the phone lightly (screen one reading emails etc) Think i'll call apple tomorrow again and say enough is enough, my iphone 3g would hold a full charge on standby for days on end. 300 hours for iphone 4? try 30, and i'm not exaggerating for my phone. yesterday i think i got 4 hours usage out of it before 0% battery. Wow, amazing, of that usage 20 mins were phone calls, most was email reading and... flicking around, and 30 mins was gaming. poor.
