My iPhone 4 Will Not Sync to iTunes.

My iPhone 4 will not sync to my iTunes. I plug it in and it'll charge, but my iTunes will not detect it. Any help?

I am about to have the problems that you guys are having. Ever since Apple released iOS5 I have had problems with syncing. It doesn't happen everyday, it happens maybe once a month, but when it happens, I have to do a variety of things from unplugging and re-plugging my iPhone, to re-starting my computer, to turning off the phone and then plugging in the USB cable. The last one seems to work. When I turn off the my iPhone, and then I hook up the USB cable and plug it in, the phone will turn on by itself and iTunes will sync. I have all the latest software updates and etc.

I never keep my music in Apple's iTunes folder since iTunes WILL delete everything if you add or remove something.

Thanks FlexROT, all I did was the 7 steps you showed, and it worked. However when I went into the folder it gave me 4 different files starting with usbaapl so I wasn't sure which one to click on. I tried 3 of the 4 before I tried itunes again. so I'm not sure which one worked, but finally I sync'd. thanks! the four file types were: a system security file, a Setup information file, a system file, an Application extensions file.

again, I did not redownload anything, or update anything... all i did was your 7 steps:

1 Open Computer C:\drive

2. Program Files

3. Common Files

4. Apple

5. Mobile Device Support

6. Drivers

7. opened (3 of 4) of the files labled usbaapl and closed it.

closed and opened itunes and it synced. thanks!

I have to give Apple Support credit - I called and resolved the problem we are ALL having. I will share:

On your computer.. itunes store..purchased...all songs... lower right says "download all". After this, connect your phone to the computer... in itunes the phone will show up under devices. Under your phone click music. then lower right "auto fill". This worked for me! Hope it does for you all!

I had same problem. Iphone 4S not recognized by iTunes, but will charge from Mac when plugged in.

I tried all the reset options, restarted computer, checked for updates. Found on another site....

SOLUTION:

Disconnect iPhone from computer. Open iTunes, select podcasts, delete all podcasts. Reconnected iPhone and iPhone was Recognized and SYNCED.

The first time I selected podcasts, it froze my computer. I had no functions and had to restart computer by disconnecting power. Restarted computer and was able to get in to iTunes and delete podcasts. Something had corrupted my Podcasts and resulted in iPhone 4S not being recognized by iTunes.

I don't know why this worked, but I tried it since you said you actually spoke with an Apple support person and it was simple enough...and lo and behold, I have music on my iPhone 4S, holy crap! I almost can't believe it. I'm afraid to unplug it from my computer. I am running Windows 7. I haven't even made any iTunes purchases, just trying to get my own music that was stored on iTunes off & on to my phone...so WEIRD! Why ask why? it worked, yo! Thanks for sharing. Unplugging now...and yup, my music remains on my phone. Awesome!

Thanks for sharing, Old@50!

I've tried to figure this out too!. What I can tell so far is that Apple Mobile Device Support is broken from iTunes 10.5 on, you can go here:

http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php

and download a previous verion.

I tried version 10.0 from a year ago, and Apple Mobile Device Support is not broken in that installer.

Just use WinRAR or 7-Zip to unpack the iTunes.exe file. and then install the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi that you will find in the folder you extacted to.

You can try something newer if you like, but the latest version from 10.5 on is broken! and rolls back when installed.

I've not tried 10.4, but please do post if you find another more recent version that works.

The version included in iTunes 10.0 is; 3.2.0.47.

The broken version I have found are inlucded in 10.5; versions 4.0.0.96 to current, which is 4.0.0.97.

4.0.0.97 is included in the most recent iTunes update 10.5.3.3

iTunes will compline that your Mobile Device drivers are out of date, but till this is fixed, I don't see another option accept downgrading to a version of Apple Mobile Decives that does work!

My MacBook wasn't detecting my iPhone 4 despite all softwares, etc. being up-to-date. It would charge but not be detected whatsoever. I tried every solution here but nothing worked. For some reason, I decided to try turning off my wi-fi setting on my iPhone and then reconnecting it back to my MacBook and THAT WORKED! iTunes started up immediately and there was my iPhone listed under devices! I don't know why this worked but it did. Hopefully this helps.

First and foremost the error code i was recieving was - E8000003. Any ideas???

Brand new Apple customer, and with the phone itself MORE than happy with the purchase. But as soon as it came to syncing the iphone 4s with itunes it was an utter nightmare. tried everything on numerous forums (new cable, uninstalling/reinstalling itunes, every different USB port, charging iphone etc etc) still unable to sync the phone though 😟

Was genuinely about to give up and take it back to the shop until i tried frankiejohnny's 7 steps:

1. Open Computer C:\drive

2. Program Files

3. Common Files

4. Apple

5. Mobile Device Support

6. Drivers

7. opened (3 of 4) of the files labled usbaapl and closed it

Hand on my heart this worked for me. I have the latest version of Itunes, a brand new Iphone 4s (purchased last weekend 11-02-2012) and a brand new samsung windows laptop also purchased on the same day as the iphone. so everything in terms of hardware and software was brand new.

worked for me and i hope it works for other people. good luck!!!!
