iPhone 4 Screen Scratching

Hi-

I have kept my new iPhone 4 in my pocket with NOTHING SHARP...no keys, no pins...nothing. And I already have a few fine scratches on a supposedly "chemically strengthened and 20x harder than plastic screen".

Has anybody else had this problem?

iPhone 4, iOS 4

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Shame on all of you out there with this problem for not taking precautions to protect your investments and just stow them in your pockets. I'm appalled to be reading such a complaint. With as many products out there in the form of screen protectors and cases that provide "total protection" for these beautiful devices, you choose to simply ignore the fact that something such as this would or could ever happen to your screens? To quote the infamous comedian Ron White, it just proves once again that "YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID"

20x harder than what type of plastic? The softest or the hardest. There are over 36,000 different chemical formulas for plastic.

I think it has to do with Q/C. I work in China inspecting our product, and Chinese always cheat, they try to use different material in order to make more money. Doesn't surprise me to hear this Q/C issues. You can tell why I say is Q/C, because some people has this problem other don't. I my case I don't have this problem

whatever you do dont take a zagg skin , they are too commercial. I just bought it from http://www.bestskinsever.com/ and its a very good skin, i would recommend that. I will test it for a few days only then i would know, but going for the dollar ones on ebay doesnt make sense since i tried once on merit line, it came after 3 weeks (it comes from hong kong) and all i got was a skin which was folded in half, so there was an irrepairable fold, which made it impossible to apply the skin !

Well there's another quote you should be familiar with "look who's calling a kettle black?" You're so naive these people, including myself who has scratches go to great lengths to keep the phone protected. The 2G, 3G, and 3GS seem to not have this problem. I never did. Now Apple announced that the glass is 20x stronger than the original- so why are there complaints of scratches coming up under normal use? As far as I know there are no fully protected cases for the 4 yet and the bumper doesn't protect the back. I've carried the iPhone for 2 1/2 years - no screen protectors - totally exposed and my phones never scratched. Now the back is made of the same material as the front and 20x stronger and I get a scratch in less than 3 weeks? After my post I suggest users ignore this post. It's a weak comment at best. I think I'd rank this comment up there with Jobs telling people to hold the phone a different way to avoid their mistake. Nice.

I too am in the scratched IP4 screen club, and frankly I'm very ****** off. I've had it for less than a month, and I've obviously take great care of it. All of a sudden out of nowhere, I noticed yesterday that I have one scratch on the front, and one on the back - each about an inch long. I NEVER have anything else in my pocket with the phone, and all I can remember doing is leaving it on a table here and there while out to eat. I had my 3G for 2 solid years with NO screen protection ever, and never got a single scratch! ***?

The ONLY reason why I didn't get a screen protector is because of the supposedly "scratch-proof" glass. First the antenna issue, then the proximity sensor issue, now this?! Really, Apple?? I swear I'm close to returning this thing and either demanding an even exchange, or I'll just get a different smartphone. I'm pretty livid.

Obviously, you didn't take very good care of it.

I've had my iPhone 4 for about two weeks now and I don't have a single scratch on either side. I bought a black Bumper when I got my phone and it works fine. I keep my phone in my pocket with nothing else in it. The only things I've had to worry about is fingerprints and for some reason, the Bumper leaves smudges after I take it off (to dock it at night). I just wipe 'em off and it's fine but not sure why it does that. I use the microfiber cloth that came with my Late 2008 unibody MacBook. Works well, although I think it's pretty cheap of Apple not to include one since the original iPhone. Anyway, I'm gonna look into buying more.

FWIW, I wasn't sure I'd like the Bumper at first. Sure, it's overpriced, but it's actually done a good job of protecting my phone so far and makes it easier to hold. I may get an iSkin Solo case when they're released, but for now, the Bumper is fine. Helps with reception, too. Definitely not going to risk damage by using it naked.

I too have had the original iPhone and 3GS, both carried successfully in pocket with no scratching.

New iPhone 4 became scratched with same carrying procedure in 3 days!!!!!

I do not believe that this is my fault. From reading these posts that are similar to mine, I believe that the screen is not as scratch resistant as the previous models.

VERY DISAPPIONTING!!!
