iPhone 4 Screen Scratching

Hi-

I have kept my new iPhone 4 in my pocket with NOTHING SHARP...no keys, no pins...nothing. And I already have a few fine scratches on a supposedly "chemically strengthened and 20x harder than plastic screen".

Has anybody else had this problem?

so i dont have an iPhone4 yet but i'm pretty sure this still may be relevant. with every other iPhone i've had i always demonstrated that the freakin screen was **** near unscratchable. to do this i'd take my keys and run it across the screen really fast. now every so often there would be what LOOKED like scratches on the screen and even if you tried to clean the screen they wouldnt go away further affirming it could be a scratch. but being the stubborn ******* i am i never gave up and stuck to my no scratch belief. finally i was able to get rid of them but using MY FINGER! rubbing really hard on the area in a circular motion with just my thumb got rid of the would be scratch. i'm willing to bet the iPhone4 will be no different.

Same here, mine happened sometime within the first week....only other thing in my pocket was a hotel key card.

I put screen protectors on my first iPhones.....found out they generally interfered with the feel of the screen so removed them and never used one all the way through iPhone3G, 3GS either.

There is no way this glass is as hard as the previous phones....sure it has amazing tensile strength but not as hard...I dread to think what it'll look like in a year.

so apparently i just jinxed myself. never seen a scratch on my phone ever even after the harsh crap i put it through. until after i posted in this thread haha. now i fear i'm gonna get even more unlucky and get a iPhone4 with the proximity issue. or gasp the antenna issue! :O in any case i'm sure my "solution" would work for most of you as long as you dont really feel a groove where the "scratch" is.

I too have kept my iPhone 4 in my pocket with nothing else in it and also have several small scratches!
I went to the local Apple retail store to get some screen protectors and was told by an employee there that they don't carry screen protectors for iPhone 4, nor will they, because they break down the chemicals of the glass and there are 3rd party screen protectors available on the internet but the use of them will void your warranty! I have been so careful with this phone and still scratches! So now what?

My screen has scratched too, I would phone someone to see if they were interested but I cannot get a signal. I have found that it scratches more in my left pocket then when stored in my right, what should I do about this? There is no official statement from apple as to which pocket would be best. I do find I favour my left pocket. My trouser material is stretched spandex with a mix of soft lycra, I like these trouser as I find them comfortable at the office and when I jog home in the early evening.

I have had my iPhone4 for two weeks, and the FRONT surface is scratched. I do not keep it in my pocket for fear of something scratching it. I have never dropped it and have treated it like a newborn baby. Yet, there are two little scratches on the front right next to one another.

I had the original iPhone for 3 years and the front glass was unblemished despite numerous drops, including the death blow that cracked the touch screen underneath (dropping it on a curb).

Is it possible I received my phone like this and didn't notice??

Same issue here!

I've owned the 3G and 3GS and didn't get a single scratch after a year of use. I never used any kind of screen protector. The screen remained flawless although the rest of the phone had some scratches. I assumed the iPhone4 would only be better so I didn't put a screen protector on. After just a few days, i started noticing fine scratches. Now its been almost a month and there are many light scratches on the screen. It is especially noticeable in the sun and bright lights. Very very annoying. I never keep anything else in my "iPhone pocket". The only thing it would rub against is the fabric my pocket is made of.

I don't get it. What happenned this time around? The iPhone 4 in theory was exactly what i wanted. now with the reception issues, this, and other random issues I'm having, i don't know anymore.

today i had a phone interview for an MBA program. Guess what happened? my iPhone dropped the call twice and i got rescheduled for another time after work so i could use a land line. doh! i think i'm close to quiting on this phone eventhough i really don't want to...

I didn't have a case at first b/c my phone was shipped to me on a Friday and I was home that weekend. Just within two days of me picking it up and putting it down in the house it got about a 1/4" scratch on the back. I have no idea how. I was very careful too. That's why I didn't have a case...not because I didn't intend to buy one. Also, there are hardly any cases available to purchase out there! I did go get one b/c I was nervous about my camera lenses getting scratched if the back got scratched that easily.

But one would think that if Apple came out with BUMPERS that cover ONLY the sides as their primarily marketed cover, that the front and back were pretty scratch-proof.

When I went to get my husband's case, the AT&T guy sold me the anti-glare screen protectors which I gladly purchased. After two days of having it on my screen I removed it. It makes the screen dull and the crispness of the display horribly dull. So what's the solution for the front??

Can anyone confirm this? Should I take my screen protector off my iPhone 4? I don't like using one, but I'd rather use one than get scratches.

I doubt it's true. What kind of crap glass would suffer much from -- eeeek 'plastic'. But even if true I KNOW many other things in my life will damage the glass even more than the plastic.
