hope you can help with this problem

I updated Itunes 10.5 then I did the software upgrade (os5). My phone was backup on my computer (Windows desktop). When I did the installation of os5 it asked me to do as a new phone or back up from computer.

I backed up from computer. Everything seemed to be going fine until the sync process was complete and I ejected the iphone. When I checked my phone, I had the folders but there were no photos in them.

Should I just do a restore and then try to sync again?

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

I just had to restore my wife's photos after hers were lost. I restored my photos using the iTunes restore option. I first confirmed the backup actually had the photos, but this was not an intuitive process, so here's what I did:

- I found the backup iTunes created when I upgraded the phone to IOS 5. It was in Library/Application Support/Mobilsync/Backup. Unfortunately this folder is hidden in Mac OS 10.7 (Lion), so to find it I had to open a Finder window, click the Go menu, and then press the Option key. The option key popped up a Library item in the Go menu, and then I could find the rest of the directory path.

- The backup files are labeled with a long hexidecimal name, so I had to just look for the right date and time. Once I found a candidate I browsed the files by using the Quick Look option in finder (the eyeball icon) because the filenames are also hexidecimal names and not intuitive. The larger files were photos, as confirmed by Quick Look.

- I then restored the iPhone in iTunes, which gave me the option of using the backup with the date and time stamp where I found the photos. If the backup you want is earlier than what iTunes gave you, and you know that folder is still on the computer, I think there is a way to point the restore process to it, but I don't know the specific directions.

Hope this helps!

"All these problems could have been avoided if you all would have simply taken the time to read the User Guide and find out how the phone actually works. "

All these problems could have been avoided if apple would have simply noticed you to do a backup of your pictures before restoring your iphone, which is not done when you first connect your new iphone to your computer. There is not a warning in the restoration prompt saying: "Hey we are going to delete everything that is one yor iphone", because that doesn't even happen. All your contacts, apps, notes, etc, that were in your new iphone, but not in the old one (backup) are kept after the sync, except for your pictures!

So, don't be cocky about yourself gdgmacguy, beliving you are better than other people because you read the User Guide. If you wanna post a response, post something that's actually gonna help.

For the others, I think this may be helpful, but i havent tried yet.

I'm trying to get access to my pictures through icloud backup, but I figure I should have turned on the photo stream feature.

Good luck luck to all and thanks for the helpful answers

SO MUCH FOR INTUITIVE!!!

I've just done the same thing...new phone- no, I don't want to set it up as a new phone, I want to give it the same name as the old one...so the only other choice is to backup using last phone, which makes sense as I want all the stuff of it on my new one BUT...it doesn't say anywhere that it will delete EVERYTHING!

My problem is I've moved and have had my computer in storage for 2 months, got new phone after computer went into storage, so i've just lost 2 months worth of photos and contacts. Arrrrgggghhh!

I tried this but I didn't see any new back up, only old two from my old iphone 3G. The sync process just wiped out everything I had in contacts, notes, messages photos, videos and everything in it up to date till 08/10/2014 to stupidly restore by latest version of iTune when sync it.

I have done exactly as "aami" said in his post dated on Aug 11, 2010 9:39 AM in his replay to dthomas86.

So, I had previously iphone 3G. I did only two back ups, the latest one was on 02/12/2012. Then on 2013 I bough an iphone 5. I used it without any connecting it to my PC (windows 7 64bit) and everything on my iphone 5 was fine until today I uninstall the old iTunes, then installed the latest version of 11.3.1.2 then plugged in my iphone 5 to my PC. A dialog box popped up and asked me to pick up one of two choices:

set a new iphone or restore from old one.

Since I totally forget about what I did more than two years a go, I chose to restore from old phone. Then I clicked Sync on my iphone, after that I found the disaster for my iphone. It wiped everything clean exactly as my iphone 3G was. Apps, photos, contacts was restored to iphone 3G to exactly what it was on 2012. No warning.. nothing.. I can't believe how stupid the developers and architectures of iTunes are. Yes guys I can judge them fairly enough because I'm myself is a developer with Microsoft Visual Studio .Net technologies. I didn't see this coming at all. I mean, if you want to format any drive you have, a pop up warning msg will till that all the contents will be deleted from that drive. I had a very valuable pictures for my wife and kids in different occasions. This made me really hate Apple products. I even won't consider this an honest error because it wasn't my fault in the first place. I read one of the wise guys in this thread saying all those complaining from the same error that caused by APPLE ITUNES that they should read the user manual. Oh God, give me a break. So, everybody's committed exactly the same mistake including me because we were equally stupid not to read the user manual. I will give my iphone 5 to my little daughter 9 years old and go for the real deal to buy Samsung Galaxy S5. I bought iphone 5 from Apple store for $849 last year. I can't even believe that this happen to me. I'm always careful when it comes to activities that will delete contents. But to allow a software to wipe everything from my iphone 5 without any warning message without my consent, I would held Apple full responsibility for this negligence. I will try and find the nearest Apple store from where I live and try to ask their support in this matter, although I'm sure that everything is lost forever, but I would like to give them last chance to prove they are still worthy to hold the title of Apple empire that Steve Jobs built it before he died.
