Netflix won't go into full screen mode in Firefox.

So I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but anyways. I just used migration assistant to transfer everything from my old 13" macbook 2008 to my new MBP 15" 2010. So after solving one problem with silverlight that wouldn't even let me stream movies from netflix because I was getting the error N8156-6013, I've now run into another problem 😟. One I start streaming a movie on my laptop within firefox and want to go full screen I can't. The video will either stop for a second and continue on normally, or the browser window will go completely black (although the sound is still working.) One remedy I have found is turning the automatic graphics switching off; However it's strange since it works in safari just fine and I don't have a problem watching other things in full screen. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I hope not, if would just shooting itself in the foot since Netflix seems to work just fine in other products.

Apple TV having Netflix connection issues, and Mac's needing a work around to go full screen on Netflix seems to speak bad more about Apple than it does about netflix as far as it working properly that is.

I would not be surprised to see Apple or Amazon taking over Netflix. They are spiining off the DVD rental portion, and there stock has taken a dump since the 60% price increase, this would make NetFlix cheap to somebody with deep pockets.

@OzziesMAC

I am old enough that I was there when Apple was first created and came out with their products.

I have seen them do stuff that just disgusted me.

Steve Wozniak (brains behind Apple) couldn't take it anymore from Steve J.

So he left the company.

I am glad Apple didn't take over Sony.

Now a days when I buy a Apple product I feel I am supporting a evil entity.

Even here on this forum, Apple mods censor comments unflattering to them.

Why don't you guys start complaining more? Apple has come a long way. Have you ever heard of this search engine called "google"? If you have a problem or issue or even a simple question with your Apple hardware or software, and you know how to type, you can do what has been known in the past few years as a "google search" and find answers.

Chances are, you aren't the first person to experience issues or frustration caused by the computer age.

Get out to the woods for a while, and don't take your computer with you. It's worth it.

Here's my attempt to get this topic back on track. I'm sure there are PLENTY of "Apple is the devil's brand" discussions out there, but people who DO Google for their computer issues land here when they have a Neflix+fullscreen+Mac problem, so let's talk about that.

This is where I'm at...

MBP stats:

mid-2010 17"

OS X 10.7.1

2.66 GHz i7

8GB RAM

500GB HDD

Firefox 6.0.2

gfxCardStatus v2.1

In the Firefox preferences, I have "Use hardware acceleration when available" UNCHECKED. There was a workaround that said to check this box, but what happens when I leave it checked is the gfx card starts off in D (discrete), and switches quickly to I (integrated) and back to D which is when the flickering happens. Now, if I uncheck this box, Firefox starts up and the gfx card is in I. When I fullscreen Netflix, it'll change to D but the video won't go to fullscreen. Then, I click fullscreen AGAIN and it goes.

When I open Firefox in I and go to YouTube, it switches to D because there's Flash on the page (my assumption). Everything on YouTube works fine. So considering all of this, I'm inclined to say that it is very much a Silverlight problem. Looks like Firefox can switch the gfx card, or allow it's plugins (if written correctly) to switch the gfx cards...Flash does it. Silverlight seems to struggle with this. Someone on here wrote that Silverlight just blamed Netflix, so if only we could get Netflix to just pass on Silverlight and go to Flash. I don't know how that would affect mobile iDevices though...haven't looked into that.

Cliff's notes:

- Using gfxCardStatus, different scenarios, and changing Firefox's "Use hardware acceleration when available" setting, it looks like there's a bug in Silverlight that won't change the gfx card when it needs to.

- Flash makes the cards switch just fine.

- Everyone should complain to Netflix and hope that they'll just drop Silverlight since Silverlight seems to not WANT to do anything about this.

Netflix won't go into full screen mode in Firefox.
