iPhone 4 Turns off randomly?

I just got an iPhone 4 yesterday, synchronized my music, apps and everything else from iTunes. Until mid afternoon I took out my phone from my pocket and found it turned off. I thought that I turned it off my self and just turned it on and went on with no worries. Later in the day i was web browsing and my phone turned completely off. I got confused and just turned it on. This went on almost 5 times in the last 30 hours. With no applications running, the ipod, facebook, safari, and the camera.
I also restored it once and from a backup.
I don't have any other problems such as screen defects or signal loss.
Please help, Thanks.

I thought I was alone with this issue.

I've had this happen once last week and twice this week.

I have an iPhone 4S with 5.0.1 iOS on Sprint.

I'm wondering if I should even try and go to a "genius" for a potential fix wait. I may wait until 5.0.2 and see if that fixes. I can't recall if it happened prior to the upgrade.

I normally leave the phone in my pocket and was thinking somehow I powered the device off. But if I had powered it off, it should have booted up after pressing the hibernate key.

I have the iphone 4 with 5.0.1 on AT&T and my phone was doing this a few months ago (before the new software upgrade) and I thought I accidentally turned it off...2 days ago it started acting up again and then yesterday it wouldn't turn on at all. I made an appointment with the "genius bar" at apple and they replaced my phone. Apple gives you a one year warranty for your iphone...Since my phone was still under warranty I was able to have the phone replaced, free of charge.

I hope this helps and I hope you're able to get a replacement phone! 🙂

My iphone 4 was turning off randomly as well, it was fully charged and I tried restoring it twice...I went to the apple store today and they replaced my phone...It was under the year warranty so it didn't cost anything. I hope you are able to get the phone replaced and I hope you backed up all your info through itunes or icloud. Good luck!!

Iphone 4 32g

I am having the same problem, 2 days ago my Iphone 4's screen went yellow then turned itself off, since then my phone keeps freezing and turning itself off, i have tried holding both buttons to restart but nothing happens, once i plug it into the charger after about 10mins it comes on. Sometime it can stay on if using it but then other times it switches itself off again and unable to use. I have had it just over a year now so can not get it exchanged :-(

Any ideas on what i should do, as feel i shouldn't have to pay more money since i paid for phone outright and very expensive!!!

Same problem here ???

I bought my 4 from USA about one and a half year ago and yesterday it started to turn off randomly... So it is out of warranty... i think this is a plague for iPhone and somebody must do sth. maybe a facebook group or a website because apple is silent about this issue. they must confess there's something going wrong and call all devices having this problem back like big vehicle companies do. i think this would be the solution!

I bought my iPhone 4s 16GB the day it released and It's been 4 months. It was working properly until a few days ago which I noticed that I shuts down automatically when the power goes down 20%.

Has anyone had such an experience? please tell me what to do?

Also I wanted to know how you guys get a replacement? I am in US but the complimentary warranty period of 90 days is over. I should go on the Apple Care Plan to get a replacement.

Thank you

i know this problem for about 1 1/4 years now. At first it happened 2 - 4 times a week. I´ve sent my iphone to the support but they told me that there is no visible problem (since it happened randomly they weren´t able to track it down) so i thought that i can´t do anything about it.

But as time went by, everything got worse. It turned out to be nearly impossible to boot it up again (most of the time).

It does not matter how long you are pressing those buttons, it does not matter if it´s connected to the power supply - Sometimes (i´m not joking!!!) i had to press the buttons up to 10 minutes to be able to call somebody, and sometimes even that didn´t work.

Now it turns off every day completely randomly. I´m unavailable most of the time and i´m really REALLY angry.

Fun Fact: I never ever actually saw it turning itself off while i was using it. EVER.

I´ve paid about 850€ for this phone and i´m not able to call my girlfriend when i need to.

yeah, thats a great feeling.

It´s also very helpful for my job. I´m late for work on a regular basis because the alarm clock doesn´t boot my supercool iphone either.

The only thing i want to give you as an advice: hold the screen on/off button and the home button for about a minute and release the screen on/off button for a short time (1 or 2 sec.) while still holding the home button... it seems to work sometimes...

I would really like to enjoy my phone but with a bug and a service like this i will never buy an iphone again.

I am convinced this has to do with a static charge issue... what I have done (and this is clearly not supported by Apple) is to remove the back cover and plug the phone in with the cover removed. The phone will restart and all will be good. Sometimes I only need to remove the screws and slide the back cover up without fully removing it and that's good enough.

If you choose to do this, be careful that you don't actually touch anything inside the phone... just removing the back seems to be enough to discharge whatever static charge has built up.

Here's my solution...

I read nearly hundreds of forums and suggestions...

And decided to do following:

First i changed the battery with a new one (costed nearly 35$)

Then i cleaned up all data and restore to factory settings

After connecting to itunes i set my phone as a new iphone (i read in forums to do this way)

it costed me to lose all my data but it has been 6 days and everything is ok until now.

hope that will work for you all...

Hi, my iPhone 4 32G iOS 5.0.1 turned off last friday. I was unable to turn it on pushing the power button so i plugged it in usb port of my mac. At the beginning the white apple begun flashing randomly so I did a restore and the phone turned on. Unfortunately the problem is not resolved as with no pattern the phone turns off and to turn it on I have to plug it in the usb port or in the charger.

Anyone knows what means the apple flashing?

Thanks

I also have this problem.

Unfortunately mine is well out of warranty. I have to pay $200 for out of warranty replacement here in NZ.

Am really annoyed, I have kept this phone in the cover apple sent me when the iphone 4 first came out, has been well looked after, now it just keeps powering off maby 4 or 5 times a week. i am worried one morning my alarm isnt going to go off as the thing will have powered off. fortunately it seems to be ok when plugged in.

I might try suggestion of purchasing new battery for it since its pretty easy to replace.

I feel like Apple has pushed out some update since the new 4GS causing older ones to run slow and have problems, making people want to upgrade!

no it didnt work for me. i replaced with an origional apple battery (had to buy special took to open back cover) and it does run much better battery life however i have the same issues.

at the moment, i have done another refresh restore and kept the new battery in, no additional apps, in the past few days it has only powered off 3 times so its much better than before.

im thinking i am going to have to do the replacement.
