iPhone 4 Turns off randomly?
I also restored it once and from a backup.
I don't have any other problems such as screen defects or signal loss.
Please help, Thanks.

Looks like i'll have to do the same,
thanks for getting back to me.
I experience exactly the same problem... I took the phone back to the provider and they sent it to the local Greek Apple service. They did a complete restore and the phone worked fine for a week or so, but now we're back to square one...I set up the phone as new from i tunes, i did a hard reset but nothing seems to work. Also if you go to Settings>General>About>Diagnostics & Usage>Diagnostics & Usage Data you'll see that everytime the phone resets, there's a kernel panic p.list created. I guess this is a hardware issue and the phone should be replaced.
I have tried everything suggested and my phone still won't turn back on! It has been on the charger for 20+ minutes, does anyone have any more suggestions until I can make my way to an AT&T store in the morning?
Thanks so much!
I found holding the power button and home button together for about 10-15 seconds brings it back to life....still need to speak to apple about it....
Same problem with my iphone 4 also. Glad its not just me. Had my iphone for just over a year now and was working perfect until May. My iphone just shut itself off randomly with 82% battery life. It would not turn on with the on/off button so i dont the reset which turned it back on. The next day i needed to use my phone and it was turned off again with more than 60% battery life this time. Even by pressing both buttons together it would not reset for like over an hour. I reset settings / restored the iphone and this worked for prob another two days until it turned itself off again. I called apple but the couldn't help me as my warranty is up. I have to keep restoring my phone like everyday until i save up 480 to buy a new one. i wish apple would just acknowledge that there is a problem here. The only recommendation they gave me is to buy a new one... ***
If anyone hears anything please le us know as this is just REALLY annoying at this stage especially when WE THE CUSTOMERS have done noting wrong. eg jailbreak, drop it, break it etc....
Com'on Apple help us out here
I have been having this problem recently.
It ususally is ok on standby, but constantly (2/3 times a day) switches itself off when using apps etc.
I missed a priceless photo of my Godson due to it tuning off 😟
Please help.
Do these forums do anything other than act as a wall of complaints that apple ignores? Or, does this forum actually HELP users?
As you can see, I am the 65th and counting, person having this issue.
Mine will shut down randomly. I need this phone for my job. If this phone is going to be this unreliable and if the only 'fix' is to reset the phone, scrapping all your photos, etc.
I will be finding a new phone soon.
This is the worst experience I have ever had with a device.
Note: I am not interested in your canned/recycled response of re-setting the phone, etc. This is not an acceptable fix. Grow up, Apple, and fix your buggy product. Address user issues!!
My iPhone 4 shut off just now so I immediately turned it back on and plugged it into my computer to run a backup. Upon opening iTunes I noticed that my phone had been backed up to the cloud not two minutes ago-the exact time my phone shut itself off. Come to think of it, I didn't have these auto shut-off/battery drain before the cloud went active...Perhaps this is part of the problem?
Hi, I posted before because I was getting the same problems.
I should have replied earlier to be honest, but, I'd just like everyone to know that ever since I disabled iCloud, my iPhone 4 has worked perfectly. It doesn't turn off anymore.
Apple need to address this and acknowledge that there is a fault.
I am going to try turning off iCloud. I don't use it anyway. Thanks for the advice. I just recently enabled the iCloud thinking it would be something kool to have.
Now, I wont consider it for a second. What crap!
Agreed, I had backed up, hard reset and restored twice. I was very close to giving Apple lots of money to "fix" my iPhone or possibly even look at replacing.
It wouldn't suprise me if the less resilient of us already have.
I'd like to see how customer service handle that situation.
I have purchased Unlocked iPhone 4 from Torronto a year and 3 months ago and using it in INDIA. For One year it worked fine. But since last one month it just shutsdwon when Battery is 55%. Again if I plug in the charger for 10 minnutes works fine till 45% to 48 % of battery percentage and then goes down. I have restored OS 5.1.1 ten times but the problem is still there even without any app loaded. Can anybody help??
I have a new iPhone 4S and experienced shutting down randomly and not being able to turn it back on. After doing a reset I was able to turn off iCloud and have had no further problems with the phone.
i have had the same issue the past 2 months. yesterday i got my new battery in the mail i ordered off ebay. took me 10 minutes to replace, and it didnt shut off once all day! pretty sure that solved the problem, even though apple told me it want a battery issue.
Just adding us to this thread. We had the iPhone 4 and never had a problem. We added a 4s with Verizon and it started shutting down randomly. Had to - two button start each time. Not good for a IT person at work. Verizon gave us a new one today. We will see how it goes...
