iPhone 4 Turns off randomly?

I just got an iPhone 4 yesterday, synchronized my music, apps and everything else from iTunes. Until mid afternoon I took out my phone from my pocket and found it turned off. I thought that I turned it off my self and just turned it on and went on with no worries. Later in the day i was web browsing and my phone turned completely off. I got confused and just turned it on. This went on almost 5 times in the last 30 hours. With no applications running, the ipod, facebook, safari, and the camera.
I also restored it once and from a backup.
I don't have any other problems such as screen defects or signal loss.
Please help, Thanks.

What an ignorant response. You have been told by several people that your responses are not helpful. If we could afford to buy new every time something broke, who in their right mind would post to these forums? If you are such a fan of Apple, why not encourage them to make something that does not break 5 months after they buy it? Don't come down on consumers who only want a working product. Quality died with Steve Jobs evidently.

Hello people !

Im from sri lanka and i bought my iphone 4G, factory unlocked from a apple store in london in one of my official trips to london. At that time it was 599£. Just like all of you'll ( apart from silly idiot karlt ) my phone is getting switched off 10 times a day and some time want get charged above a certain percentage. ( it differ time to time) . Also it keeps on dropping the network and even i manage to get the phone back to life ( with half charged, resetting it 10-15 times ) my WiFi is gone. Its like the WiFi button is shades off and i cant switch it on. This phone worked fine for two years and now i just want to smash it on the floor. My friends 3Gs still works fine. And i really dont know why apple is not doing anything about this since there are many issues like this. And im sure apple see all this comments as this forum belongS to apple and there just turning a blind eye or we all of us must have been posting these comments on a android forum. I hope samsung galaxy S3 will not put us down like this as im planning to move on to android. ( well, iOs6 ***** with apple maps, and no youtube app for ipads. In my area on apple maps is just a gray scale picture. Before it was well detailed map) BTW, going for iphone5 is not the option. In that case, its SAMSUNG GS3.

I have had the same problem. My phone turns off randomly and over heats. Apple has given me 3 new phones and this continued to happen. So what I did was reset all factory settings, did not back up from i cloud or my computer/ I tunes and it sort of worked. I noticed that when I deleted all the pictures assigned to my contacts, the issue with the phone turning off was decreased.

I also went to AT&T and go a new sim card. Lets see if this does it.

I am disappointed that this has happened to me and although Apple has denied it... I really think i cought a viris.

Interesting when you see very similar threads for the 3gs, 4 and 4s. Theres an awful lot of people with the same annoying problem. Personally I've done a restore, bought a new battery, replaced the power button and changed ios. None of these are solutions. My phone cuts out every 2nd phone call i make these days. Care to help out apple??

Looks like more folks had this happen than just me. Update: I went ahead and took mine into the Apple Store and without question they just replaced it with another 4s and I haven't had the issue since (knock on wood) - guy seemed to think it was a hardware issue. It had rebooted enough times that there were some issues with the physical software too. the only thing about them replacing phones for you is that you get a "new refurbished" phone, which I always despise, but it's better than the phone shutting off. So if y'all have Apple Care just go get a "new" phone. 🙂

Hey guys I had exactly the same problem my iPhone 4 would shut down randomly at least twice a week. To be honest I used to have jailbreak when the problems started so I realized I messed up and did a complete restore an update to iOS 6.1.3 with which I continued to have the same problem. I continued browsing the web or answers and saw that in the diagnostics and usage setting reports were being created with .plists and crashlogs and every time it shut off a log was created. Anyway turns out a friend of mine told me the problem was with an app that was in conflict with the software and blah blah blah I had to backup and restore AGAIN!!!. Didn't work. So finally what I did was I pluged the iPhone to the computer, I put it in DFU mode and did a restore to factory settings. Only this time when asked if I wanted to restore from backup, I chose to set up as new. So WARNING. Before I did that I made sure I made a copy of all my contacts using an app that sent my contacts to an email address and then would re appear just by opening the email on iPhone.

As for purchased and free apps you will have to reinstall each one from AppStore. If you have a lot of them and can't remember you can go to iTunes Store online and you can find a record of all your downloaded apps.

Anyway long story short I did this an now I'm going on two months with no random shutdowns and no logs on diagnostic and usage! Hope this works for some of you guys I assure you it worked for me. Good luck all!!!
