Imported videos from Kodak PlaySport will play!

I just discovered today that iPad will import video from the Kodak PlaySport Zx3 and ACTUALLY PLAY IT! Granted, it will only play video shot in standard definiton, not HD. Since I couldn't find any info on the compatibility between this video camera and the iPad, I went to my local Best Buy with my own SD card, shot some test videos, then imported it to the iPad using the Camera Connection Kit SD card accessory.

Here are the details --

Capture modes
(Imports, doesn't play) 1080p—1920 x 1080, 30 fps
(Imports, doesn't play) 720p / 60 fps—1280 x 720, 60 fps
(Imports, doesn't play) 720p—1280 x 720, 30 fps
(Imports AND plays!) WVGA—848 x 480, 30 fps

Just wanted to share this info. Hope it helps someone out there!

Just thought of a question to any PlaySport owners out there... is there a way to shoot video at 720p, then downgrade the video to WVGA, then transfer it to iPad so it will play?

I ask this because I'll be going on vacation in a couple months and would really like to be able to review my videos on the iPad so I know if I captured good video or not. I'm thinking I could record at 720p and import/store all of those on iPad, then while the videos are still in the camera, I could downgrade them all to WVGA and transfer again, that way I can see watch them on iPad. Hmm...

Anyone own one of these?

Just bought the Kodak ZX3 yesterday and heading to Alaska tomorrow. Was hoping to review the videos on the IPAD but as you stated it doesnt appear to be possible in HD.I dont see a way to convert on the Kodak but if you figure it out please share.

As stated above, use the GoodReader app to import and play the HD videos. There is no reason to reformat the video.

If the Camera Connect Kit can import the photos you just go to the Photo Icon (looks like camera) in GoodReader (bottom middle) access the photo albums on the iPad.

When I select the camera icon I only have the photos on the iPad to choose from. No videos. Any suggestions?

Two posters mentioned GoodReader will allow you to import HD video from the Kodak PlaySport to the iPad. Two other posters said they tried and it only worked with photos (and maybe non-HD video).

If you have actually used GoodReader (or any other program, for that matter) to import HD video from the PlaySport to iPad, could you please post something other than a single sentence declaring that you can do it? Step-by-step instruction, for example, would be great.

For the record, when I use GoodReader and press the camera icon at the bottom, it opens the "Photo Albums" selection, but HD movie files are not shown (even though they are in the photo album and displayed with a generic movie icon).

Just to confirm I cannot view any of my playsport imported videos in goodreader. Can playback wvga videos in photo app, but goodreader does not see any video files (hd or wvga) when pressing the camera button at the bottom. Would love to know how you managed to get goodreader to see them and play them? At the minute my iPad can only be used to store the hd vids to free up space on my playsport so I will have to transfer them to computer once home.

Is there an option I've not ticked to get the vids into goodreader?

I'm seeing the imported HD files in goodreader when I click on the camera button, but when I try and import them into goodreader I get the following error:

UNKNOWN FORMAT Picture of unknown format was selected.

Anyone have any ideas on how to actually view the files in goodreader (or any app for that matter)?

Please can someone help with this post. I have Goodreader app on ipad after reading these posters advice, but as mentioned, it wont pick up any HD video. Only pics or WVGA. Can someone step by step guide me through it. I am new to ipad and trying to find my way around things and any advice is really appreciated.

This just doesn't make sense to me. The specs claim the iPad can handle this yet it doesn't. We shouldn't have to use GoodReader to do this. I've purchase ReelDirector and want to be able to play with some videos while on vacation and not lug my MacBook with me. And I know, WVGA works fine. But I didn't spend money on all this to have crappy video of vacations and such. This seems simple...please help us out here Apple!

I have one of these cameras too and I'm wondering: Does the camera kit let you import and "store" the data on the iPad, even if it doesn't play back correctly?

I'm going on vacation an I'll be shooting a lot of HD video and taking pictures.. I'm not so concerned with playback, but just using the iPad as a storage dump for all my files.

Does it work like that?
Will I be able to retrieve and play the files when i connect it to my macbook when i get back home.

Yes, the PlaySport videos will be imported.
When you connect to the computer, iPhoto will be opened and you can import them there.
