Imported videos from Kodak PlaySport will play!

I just discovered today that iPad will import video from the Kodak PlaySport Zx3 and ACTUALLY PLAY IT! Granted, it will only play video shot in standard definiton, not HD. Since I couldn't find any info on the compatibility between this video camera and the iPad, I went to my local Best Buy with my own SD card, shot some test videos, then imported it to the iPad using the Camera Connection Kit SD card accessory.

Here are the details --

Capture modes
(Imports, doesn't play) 1080p—1920 x 1080, 30 fps
(Imports, doesn't play) 720p / 60 fps—1280 x 720, 60 fps
(Imports, doesn't play) 720p—1280 x 720, 30 fps
(Imports AND plays!) WVGA—848 x 480, 30 fps

Just wanted to share this info. Hope it helps someone out there!

As far as I am concerned...this is a lie. I have not found a way to get a video from the Kodak to the iPad.

I have and it works fine as have many others.

Are you using the iPad Camera Connection Kit?

I am VERY disapointed because creating vidoes from PlaySport to the iPad was the reason I bought the iPad. Lies from vendors f...ed me.

Which vendor told you a lie and what was the lie?

Do not belive anything you see on this site.

Including your statements?

Though Derech80 is a little, er volatile, he's essentially correct. Only the lowest resolution files will play on iPad without conversion. Using the camera kit will get the files on to the iPad, but they won't play. Our best hope is that Goodreader implement a codec that supports the Kodak files, but I doubt that there's enough demand to make it a priority for them.

Carroect as was stated in the very first post of this topic.

David Brewer indicated in this topic that it already does play them.

You'll only be able to play back the lowest resolution that the Playsport will capture (which is essentially useless). 720p or 1080 will not play back on the iPad. You can import files using the camera connection kit, in order to use your iPad as storage while you're out and about, but I'm afraid that's all. I've spent a lot of time researching software that might import the files from the iPad camera roll and play them, but I'm afraid that nothing I've found will do so.

Just ran into this issue w my Nikon camera and full hd video as well. While I love good reader for other things I get the invalid format error when trying to watch from there. I ended up buying Azul to do this, the newest version will import from the camera roll which I populated from the camera kit. ***** to have to buy yet another app to do something that will surely be in ios5 but its the only non computer solution I see right now.

This might help some ppl that just want to view the video. I've recently shot some 720p footage with my kodak playsport. I stuck the SD card in my MB Pro and transferred it to my IPhone 3gs through FileApp (free). The videos play fine. I haven't tried 720p 60fps or 1080p, but I imagine it should work too. Perhaps the same method might work using the camera connector on an IPad. You probably can't access the files anywhere else (Non-JB). But otherwise, it's good for previewing in preparation to edit. Hope that helps.

Yes...volatile was kind. Handbrake is a tool that I found useful for getting the low res video from the PlaySport to the iPad. I am now hoping to actually use those videos in iMovie on the iPad. Still no luck, but I promise to post again if I am successful. However, the main reason I am posting here is to recommend Handbrake to others on the board. Useful with a great price : http://handbrake.fr

...and for the record, I was wrong. With the right tools and the right resolution, videos from PlaySport can get to an iPad and be played.
