iPhone 4 displays incorrect time

Hi all,

Just been hit by the Daylight setting bug, and I dont even have the iPhone 4, but the 3GS, so decided to look at something that has irritated me for months now...

My problem isn't seconds or even minutes. My Automatic time is DAYS out, and it's very annoying.

The time right now is 19:26 on 2nd Nov 2010, If I switch to Automatic time settings, the time and date goes to 09:44 on the 30th October 2010...

Why?

My computer is correct..it's in the correct zone, and matches the zone setting for my iPhone.

What to do?

Go into Settings / General / Date & Time and set the clock manually.

This is not an acceptable solution.
People having the bug need to know if it is a hardware problem or not.
I will not wait the end of the guarantee period.

Count me in as another who thinks the Date & Time's "Set Automatically" setting is a load of crock. In my case, I have two iPhone 4's with iOS 4.1. One is off by 20 seconds from my PC (synced & matching with the time on http://time.gov) while the other is off by 1.5 minutes. This is even after syncing with iTunes. I didn't bother with network settings reset because so many others said it didn't work.

I woke up this morning to find my date/time had changed itself to 4am Sunday morning. It was fine when I went to sleep last night. As a result my alarm didn't go off, woke up 30 minutes late and had to rush to get to work on time.

I know Apple said the problem with the alarms going off an hour early/late would be fixed after Tuesday but I didn't think they meant it would be fixed by randomly changing the date and time on the iPhone.

I don't get why it's so difficult for them to get it right - I've never seen this behaviour on any other phone I've ever had.

Exactly the same thing here on a 3GS running 4.1

Rolled back to the 7th (today is the 10th). Set to automatically update the time. Set the time correctly manually then switched automatic back on and time rolled back to completely wrong again.

Hope a fix is sorted ASAP.

I'm on iPhone 3GS on 4.1 and have also had my date changed to 7 November.

It was fine when I fell asleep at 2am last night but between then and 7am when my alarm was set it rolled back.

I too have this issue! All was fine on automatic setting until this morning. When I get up and switch on my 3GS rapidly changes from the correct time to a time 3 hours and 3 days earlier! My time zone is correct - I can set the time/date manually but every single time I switch on automatic the clock immediately switches back to Sunday and 3 hours earlier.

I have tried a power recycle and a reset (without wiping data) to no avail. This has occured every single time I have tried it this morning.

Does any one have any ideas?

Do you have Date & Time set to automatically on your iPhone? If so, syncing your iPhone with iTunes has nothing to do with the date and time set on your iPhone, and I don't believe syncing with iTunes has anything to do with this regardless. When Date & Time is set to automatically, the date and time is determined by the cell tower the iPhone is connected with. When set to manually, manual is manual which is not determined by syncing with iTunes.

My 3Gs too has rolled back three days and by 30 odd mins. Time zone is correct so it's not that.

Mac is fine.

Starting to question reliability of Apple products for the first time now.

3Gs started dropping calls (seems ok now after reset all settings), keyboard on my MacBook starts capitalising all by itself, and now Automatic time setting is all to ****.

What's going on Steve? I love everything Apple as life is so much easier than PC, or at least it was........

Hope Apple not taking its eye off existing customers/products!!

Do you have Date and Time set to Automatically with your iPhone?

When some people get a dropped call with their iPhone, they automatically assume it was caused by their iPhone and iPhone only as if no other cell phones ever have a dropped call or there is no chance it was caused at the other end or by their carrier or by another carrier. Many factors go in to that - a dropped call is not always caused by the iPhone or due to an iPhone problem.

Hi Ladies and gents, I work for tech support for one of the UK mobile companies. We have a had a fair few calls with customers saying that their alarms are oing off an hour later. I found out that there was a bug and told customers who called that the US will soon be hit with the same issue as their clocks go back on the 7th November.

Today I have had calls about the time and date setting itself wrong when set to automatic. I personally think it is a software issue related to daylight savings and time zone unless its a total coincidence that the dates on two iphones have changed to Nov 7 which happens to be the date at which US clock go back an hour.

I think it will be fixed with the next software update but only time will tell.

I too have found this problem with my automatic clock changing however mine has jumped forward to the 14th of November and 6 hrs ealier than it currently is. Do we have to wait for the new 4.2 software and make do with setting the time manually?

Just a quick follow up. I came home this evening having had the clock move back 3 days and 3hrs 30mins every time it gets switched to automatic.

I synced my iPhone with my iMac and instantly the time and date corrected. When I switched it to auto again then the time and date have stuck at the correct ones.

Hope this continues. Will see when I wake tomorrow.

My wife's iPhone 3GS had this problem too, but my 3GS didn't.

I simply plugged it into iTunes, ran a Sync and the time corrected itself. Automatic time updates were turned on throughout. So, like Kev1n, I suggest that you plug your phone into your computer and sync it to fix this glitch - it is unlikely to be a software error, more of a glitch on the time sync source.
