iPhoto cant import video from iphone 4

So i cant import any video to iphoto from my iPhone 4. It gives me a error stating

"Error Downloading image.
iPhoto cannot import your photos
because there was a problem downloading an image"

Image capture wont work either.

I've tried deleting everything from the camera roll. Shoot another video and connect and I still get the same error..

Thanks in advance

I have the same "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image" issue with long videos.

Grognard's method worked for one of them, but another 2 really long ones don't work.

I have tried iPhoneExplorer, which crashes, and PhotoToMac, which creates a Zero KB file for one movie and a corrupted file for the other.

These 2 last movies are > 45mn long. It seems to me that the iPhone4 has issues in transferring large files...

Take a deep breath.

Take 2 minutes to read and apply the following.

Problem solved.

Quit iPhoto
Open Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app)
In the search window at the top right, search for PTPCamera
Click on PTPCamera in the list of results to highlight it
Click on Quit Process (the red stopsign icon in the upper left of Activity Monitor)
Choose “Quit”
If you don’t already see “Image Capture Extension” in the list, search for it in the search box. Click on “Image Capture Extension” in the list of results to highlight it
Choose “Quit”
Go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > Image Capture > Devices and open PTPCamera.app back up
Unplug and re-plug the iPhone 4. iPhoto should open, if you’ve set it to do so when a camera is plugged in. Otherwise, open it. You should see your media available for import from the iPhone 4 when you click on the iPhone 4 in the devices list.

I tried Grognard's suggestion (see below) and it worked for me, however, I took some additional steps as well:

First:

Check for software updates on Mac and install/restart

Second: Grognards's Steps

Step one: turn off and on your iPhone.

Step Two : launch iTunes and iPhoto

Step three : connect the iPhone to the computer

Third: only select one video at a time and import the selected item.

Hope it works for you!

I faced the similar problem. I recorded some videos (30 - 45 mins) using iPad 2.

When I wanted to import those videos using iPhoto, a prompt popped out:

"iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image".

I was aware that my MacBook Pro has almost reached its storage capacity, only 2GB available. So, I suspected it was the culprit. I moved all my videos from iTunes U to external hard disk to increase the storage capacity of local hardisk to around 26GB. Then, I tried to import those videos again.

GUESS WHAT? It worked!!! 🙂

Hope this helps! All the best!
