Integration with Audi MMI

Hey everyone,

the Audi Multimedia Interface integrates fully with the iPod touch, allowing users to fully control the iPod music from the car UI.

however, after I updated the iPod to iOS4, the music playback still works but scrolling through music is extremely slow, and usually does not allow me to scroll through music after the letter "B". this is especially true when scrolling through Artists.

Everything was working perfectly before the update.

I have the 32GB 3rd Gen iPod Touch.

Anyone having same issues? Ive looked everywhere for a solution but found nothing.

I tried resetting the ipod, and also restored to factory setting and restored Data, but still nothing.

Previously, when the iPod was connected, the screen would show the AUDI logo and say accessory connected. Now, nothing appears. I suspect this has to do with the multi-tasking?

Thanks for your help!

I have the 64 gb iPod touch and the same problem occurred after the version 9 update. There is no way to go backward to a prior version. This seems to work for me but not 100% of the time. Before turning on the engine, turn on the iPOD to the home screen and plug in. Then turn on the engine. It usually ports over the folders, but this does not always happen. I went to the Genius Bar in Chicago and spoke them, but could offer no solution at all.

I have a new audi q5 with MMI. I have a iphone 3GS. So far, phone and ipod features seem to work. However, streaming audio does not work. When I play Pandora on my IPhone, my music starts for a few seconds and then defaults over to IPod music in my phone. I tried turning off IPod but it just comes back on and overtakes the Pandora music source. The Audi dealers says he does not know how to fix it.

Also, I agree that the connector from the glove box is too short. I think you can get an extension cord so you can reach the Iphone from the drivers seat. I assume Audi did this for safely reasons. Has any one tried an extension cord?

Also, Audi accessories show other connectors. Our lexus ES350 takes the audio line from the Iphone and connects to the sound system. The Iphone connector is used to plub into the power outlet. Pandora works great.

Also, why not bluetooth. Can I get my IPhone to connect to the Audi MMI via bluetooth.

Apple and Audi need to get together and fix this problem.

PS .. I did test drive new Q5 and another dealer and my Iphone and Pandora worked fine. So now that I own one .. this is a big mystery.

Updating to 4.1 fixed this problem for me, but only temporarily. Now, when i go to Artists, I see only "All". Clicking through to all gives me message - can't remember exactly what it is - what something like no tracks to play. I can see all the albums and scroll through fine, just can't see any artists. Has anyone else seen this?

I have the same problem streaming from my iPhone 4 with 4.2.1 I can access the iPod, bluetooth pairing works well, but I cannot stream Pandora. When I try to stream Pandora, the music comes on for about a second and is then supplanted by the first song in the iPod list.

Does anyone know if Audi intends to update the MMI software or if there's a work-around for this?

Dear all,

I raised this issue with my local Audi garage and they have provided me with a small batch file which updates the MMI software. I have an 09 plate Audi A4 with full MMI.

I can't figure out how to post files on here but if anyone wants it, please PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you. Its a 2.5 meg file.

The instructions are quite simple:

1) Move the file to a USB stick
2) Plug USB stick into your MMI system and wait while the update takes place (it gives you an on screen status).

The fix has sorted out the issue for me and I can now use my ipod on IOS 4.2 without any issues where as before it wasn't functioning.

I suspect it will also fix compatibility issues with Iphone 4.

Cheers,

Hi,

Got a 2011 A6 with MMI interface and it worked well at first, but after a month or so it started loosing access to streaming apps. Works for 2-3 secs but then IPOD overrides. I am running IPhone 3GS with OS 4.2.1. My car was built in September. Interesting thing is, that my wife's Iphone 3GS with an earlier OS Version works absolutely fine.

BTW: In order to avoid having the Iphone in the glove compartment - I got BRODIT docking w/o cable and get 'dockXtender' extension cable from CABLE JIVE www.cablejive.com. Fast and reliable delivery. Works well.

k3bab - any chance you could email the SW patch/update on enorrman@yahoo.com?

If you email me I can post the file on my dropbox and make it easy for people to get. Thank you. atlanta70@gmail.com

I don't think I will load it on my 2011 Q5 but it would be a nice fix.

I'm going to use a bluetooth streaming dongle and get an AMI-1/8" stereo jack for the Q5. Then I'll be able to keep my iPhone in the center console or hand, with power plugged in, and stream whatever I want to the dongle and to the speakers. Pretty sad that I have to go this route. I also have to worry about batteries in the dongle now since their is no power in the glovebox. I was considering using a AMI-USB adapter cable and a bluetooth streaming usb dongle but I don't think that would be compatible with each other, but it would supply it's own power!

Really the iPhone is more powerful than this lame AMI 3G system, easier to call phone book entries with voice, easier to find points of interest, etc. AMI pretty much *****.

I think I have a working solution.

I have had this same problem, going back to iPhone 3GS, before the last software update to iOS 4.1, then 4.2 Then when I updated to that, streaming music apps worked in my Audi A4 2006. I was so happy I had't noticed that my ipod music had disappeared (See more here: http://goo.gl/ihVfJ) , because all I cared about was Pandora and Napster.

Then IOS 4.2 came out, and my streaming stopped working again. ****!

Then I upgraded a few months ago to a iPhone 4 and streaming worked again! Turns out, then if you have no music on your iPhone, when it attempts to fade out, it will not and stay in the streaming app.

I have a new 2011 A5 with my iphone4. I have no installed music on it, so now EVERY streaming app (Pandora, Napster, NPR, even Youtube) work perfectly.

Solution? Remove all music on your iphone, and then all streaming music apps should work fine

Hope this helps.
