iPhone won't connect to WiFi

Somehow I thought that was coming!

Well, there's only so much you can do to resolve the issue on your own. Hardware does fail now and again.

i am going mad now ~ got the 4s - it suddenlystopped connection to WIFI this morning - laptop still connects -

Hit reset after reading first post and now nothing works reWIFI - does not even pick it up!! no grey circle nothing!

Reboot your router by turning it off or unplugging it for about 15 seconds.

The fun part is, that thread is started in 2010, with people complaining on connection problems, after update to ios 4. They way to figure out what is wrong still same. Does you phone see other networks? no - phone has a problem. Did you restore software? yes and still the same - you phone needs repair.

Thanks for posting that reminder, even though it has been posted countless times in this and other threads. But you don't expect people to actually read the messages in a thread they post to, do you? 😉

To your list I would add that if the phone works with all networks except one the problem is most likely in the router, not the phone. Even if other devices on the same router work.

ok...reset and not working - did not recognise any wireless

Switched off / restarted and rebooted wireless - now picking it up but not accepting wifi password ~ and so unable to connect ....arghhhhHHH

- the prob was i read the original message and replies and hit reset - should have gone from the back to the begin~! and just rebooted and restarted 😢 off to Apple we go ~

Okay here is the temporary fix. Take your iPhone and put in a zip lock bag. Then place the iPhone in your freezer for about 5 minutes. This will fix the problem.

Now why does this odd solution work? What has happened that in iOS6 Apple tried to improve the power management of the phone for better performance. Unfortunately the testing wasn't robust enough and many wifi chips in the iPhone 4S and 5 overheat.

The iPhone protects the components inside the phone by switching off the wifi which is why the wifi greys out.

So returning your phone won't necessarily solve the problem because you might get another phone with the same wifi chip.

So until Apple come out with software fix make sure you have a freezer handy!

An interesting hypothesis, however, this suggestion was first made over 3 years ago, so it has nothing to do with iOS 6. It was reported to work in some cases 3 years ago, also. But not all cases, and it only applies when the phone cannot connect to any network.

Hypothesis or not it works a charm!

This method was also used years ago in an attempt to recover data from crashed hard drives and is no way specific to wifi or iPhones.
