IOS 4 update broke charging on my Emerson iC172 clock radio

I received an Emerson iC172 iPod Dock Alarm Clock Radio in March as a wedding present and enjoyed using it as a charging stand for my iPhone 3GS. All functions worked perfectly under the 3.0 software. The clock radio would play music from my iPhone 3GS as the morning alarm, etc.

After the upgrade, I get the message saying charging isn't supported with the device, etc. Other functions still work where the clock radio controls the iPhone to play music.

Why does a software update nullify hardware compatibility with a 3rd party product? I've searched google for info on this issue, but to no avail. Any thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

Hi Guys,
I have a Sony ICF-C1iPMK2 and an IPhone 3GS and I too am suffering from the charging issue after upgrading to IOS4, also interestingly enough my daughter has an Ipod touch and that also stopped charging too.

I have searched for weeks for an answer I have even contacted Sony who were less than helpful, but have so far turned up blank so I would be interested if anybody manages to find a solution other than changing my phone and alarm clock.

I got home last night hoping that the latest IOS 4.02 update would solve all my problems, however is was disappointing at best.
I did not fix my dock charging issue and I am also having issues now charging from the PC I upgraded the OS on. Luckily there is another PC I can use and hope it is just a glitch with my PC and a reboot will sort it.

Here's Hoping....

I'm way late chiming in, but also am having a problem with my Sony clock radio. I can charge, but it won't play music through the speakers. I did find that if I do things in a specific order, I can listen to music via my bluetooth headphones while the phone is charging, but that doesn't help with trying to wake up to iPod like I used to.

I was at sonystyle yesterday and confirmed the same behavior on current models in the store - there was one that could play my music but the others did not. These devices all say "Made for iPod - works with iPhone"... not so much anymore!
