Cracked screen of my new iPhone 4

Dropped Iphone 4 -- shattered front screen...phone is only a week old 😟
Any ideas on what kind of sympathy I may get from Apple?

Well, it looks like they do indeed still have flexibility....

Took mrs snowtrooper's 4S in today to get it swapped since her screen was broken.

They were gonna charge me the 49 dollar Apple Care + deductible, but after a few attempts to ring it up and a quick trip to the back, the genius said "well, I guess this one's on us".

Only explanation was that black Friday had wreaked havok with their POS system.

Needless to say, I was very happy!

Now have my black 64GB 4S in a lifeproof and her white 32GB 4S in a white and pink otterbox defender....

Awesome outcome / great story.

Butter fingers and carelessness lead to my issue - dropped my phone while grocery shopping. One in a million landing with the phone landing screen first on the tray of the grocery cart - right on one of the dowels. This shattered the screen and made it unusable; I couldn't unlock the phone. I checked AT&T for a replacement - they wanted $400 for a brand new one (iPhone 4) OR pay the 199 deductible, reactivation and shipping charges for a replacement. I looked up iHospital and they quoted a repair of $119 and four weeks to repair and ship back. I had read a few stories on the forum that some had a fantastic experience and a comp/on-the-house replacement. I had nothing to lose, there's an Apple Store maybe 20 minutes from my house. I gave it a shot and went in not expecting a free replacement; I had already accepted the fact that I would have to pay $149 to get it fixed and had no intentions to be that "jerk" that forces something down someone else's throat - believe me, I saw a few while there. People surely do treat random workers like &^%$ at any store and I just don't understand why. Back to the story... checked in and was told that they were running a little behind but that they would get to me ASAP. I figured it would be busy with Christmas being a few weeks away, the fact that it was a Saturday AND I visited a store in a prominent town well known for it's residential wealth (Naperville, IL). I didn't mind the wait so I grabbed a stool and played with a mac book. I've never, ever had a poor customer service experience at the Apple Store... did I say ever? Yes... ever! Every five or so minutes someone would stop by and check in on me as well as share where I was on the appointment queue. I really appreciated the effort and attention - especially on a VERY busy Saturday. My time finally came and I was greeted by Oleg. He asked what he could do for me. I explained my story and admitted fault right away. He checked out my phone and confirmed that the phone was shot. Oleg explained that I would need a replacement and that the replacement fee is $149. I gave him the green light and told him that I was expecting that and admitted my carelessness again (I want to re-iterate that I did not have any intentions of a freebie, my guilt was genuine). After a few minutes behind in the back Oleg returned and explained that he had never seen a phone have such an issue like this before - cracked, ok, but completely useless as a result of a one in a million shattering in on specific spot on a phone was certainly unique. He handed me the new phone and said that it was on the house. I was flabbergasted.

Moral of the story be nice to your associate and be honest about your situation. You may or may not have the same outcome as I did, but you will at least have an enjoyable experience; the staff deserves to be treated with respect. I know I'm tallying off here, but I just don't understand the entitlment issue with people when they have problems. I witnessed many jack &^% customers that totally took it out on the associate for no reason.

Oleg at the Naperville store - thank you. You certainly proved to me that Apple is a wonderful company and that their associates do care. I've had my eye on an iPad2 for a while now. The money I saved from the phone replacement and my hopeful fantasy football winnings (fingers crossed!) and I'll soon be back to the store to buy an iPad2. I'm an official Apple convert.

Thank you, Apple.

Droped my 4s phone as I was getting out of my car and the whole screen shattered (might I add, I've only had it for less than a month) looked like a spider web. The phone still worked fine but couldnt see much through it! Anyways, went to an Apple store near me... told the employee what happened and she said 199$ to replace the SCREEN... didnt expect to get anything for free but thats WAY too high for just a screen. Then after a week of being depressed because of my phone 😢 (LOL) I thought I'd try an Apple store about 30 mins away, the AWSOME guy that worked there said he'd replace my WHOLE phone for 199$. Even though I didnt have 199$ to spare, I accepted the offer. Didnt think I'd find a better offer anywhere else. So if this happens to you, and you have multiple Apple stores near you, try all of them before accepting an offer... you never know, might get a random act of kindness!

Thanks Employee @ the Coconut Point Apple store, you truly made my day with that offer! 😍

I hate to tell you this, but the first store would have replaced the entire phone. Apple does not repair phones in store. They replace the entire phone with a service replacement. Either the first person you spoke to didn't articulate it very well or you just didn't understand. There was no random act of kindness there. $199 is the standard out of warranty replacement charge for a 4S.

I am pretty sure I understood well.. Because I repeatedly said "just the screen costs 199$, I bought the whole phone for that amount!" with my iPhone 4 I had no problem took care of it like it was my child lol so I wouldn't know if they did screen changes or whole phones! Anywho, you just ruined my mood again lol but good luck to anyone else who cracks their pricey iPhones!

Six weeks ago, I bought a used iPhone 4 from someone off of Craigslist. But right from the beginning, the camera took blurry pictures. I set up an appointment with the local genius bar, and the technician immediately diagnosed the problem as water condensation fogging up the glass above the camera eye.

He took the phone in back, and a half hour later, explained that to correct the problem--they decided to replace the back of the phone with a brand new back! That not only took care of the camera problem, but what is amazing is that they did it for FREE! I just wish every company operated like Apple.

I have only had my iphone 4 a couple if months and on monday my phone slipped out if my pocket whilst i was getting in my car abd the front screen smashed in the top left hand corner. Now after reading posts in here i went to an apple store and i explained what happened and even showed the guy the posts on here. Well he was very unhelpful told me i would have to pay for a new one and i would need to book an appointment to do so even though i was already there!! Aswell as telling ne that all the posts on here were lies!! I was so unimpressed with his service especially since i have always bought apple products including 3 macs, numerous ipods and 2 iphones, this service will definately make me think twice before purchasing an apple product again especially since my iphone screen only fell 1ft off the ground from lowered sports car, all i can say is that the reinforced strenghted glass is poor indeed i would hope they fix this in the 5!!

I was just in the Walnut street store in Philadelphia last week and had both my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2. It took me about an hour to find parking in center city at noon on a weekday, but finally made my 1:40 appt. As soon as I walked in someone had checked me in and said they were really busy and my wait time was an extra 10 minutes or so. I explained how my iPhone 4's back camera lens was scratched completely to where in couldn't take any pictures and I had not dropped it at all and keep it in a case at all times. They replaced the back of the phone (which was out of warranty) for only $29. Then I explained how the front of my iPad 2 at the top was or seemed to be coming apart from the back. The since the iPad was within it's year warranty they replaced it and gave me a new one for no charge. This was the 3rd or 4th time inhale been there and I have never had a complaint. It took me longer to find parking than to get my issues taken care of. In my personal experience with Apple I think their customer service is second to none. I guess it just depends on the store and the person who handles the situation. I cannot wait for the iPhone 5 to release and I will be one of the crazies out there trying to get my hands on one the 1st day for sure!
