Currently Being ModeratedOct 10, 2010 2:35 PM (in response to rbrylawski)I dropped mine on the sidewalk and shattered the back glass and I had the bumper case on it. Apple will do a replacement glass for $29 but with me they had to order the part. It took about three days to come in. During that time someone stole my husbands Iphone 4 which I purchased that week. I was telling one of the Apple employees what happen and they did not charge me the $29. I thought that was really nice of them because I was already out of $400 for that phone. I did not have insurance on it. I do have insurance on my phone now. I purchased it from Safeware that covers lost, stolen, and damaged phones. During my research for insurance this was the only insurance that covered lost or stolen phones. The cost is $99 a year if you get the insurance 30 days after purchase. I purchased my phone in July so I ended up paying $108 but I feel so much better now about my phone. I also purchased the Otter case.Windows XP

Currently Being ModeratedNov 11, 2010 10:34 PM (in response to Alamodave)yep i have had the free belkin case, that apple gave to me for the "signal issues" on my new iphone 4 since day one. The phone fell out of my car by being swept from the floor of the car which is about 6" from the ground of a smooth garage floor. I picked up my phone and there was a tiny pit in the screen, I was upset but it was bound to happen, not a huge deal right? Wrong! about 20 minutes later i wake my phone and start texting, as soon as my finger so ever gently touched that screen, it cracked all the way across! I will be going to an apple store and telling them what i think about this "super industrial strengthened glass." I understand that glass this strong has virtually no bending capability, but honestly i drop the phone 6" from the ground, with basically un-noticable damage, so i guess, if you think you got lucky when you dropped your beautiful new iPhone, think again...Iphone 4, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedNov 24, 2010 1:09 PM (in response to Alamodave)The same thing happened to me 2 days ago, I scheduled an appointment with an Apple technician yesterday. The technician saw my phone and said he'll be back in a couple of minutes, he came back in 5 and said that because I'd never had such issues with my phone they were going to me a free replacement even though user damage isn't covered under the standard 1 year warranty. I am truly grateful to Apple
Currently Being ModeratedDec 29, 2010 2:53 AM (in response to Alamodave)I also had similar problem when my front screen on iPhone 4 was cracked while it was left in my trouser pocket. Only reason I thought it may have happened was by putting some pressure on phone when I leaned on my car ro clean some snow.
Although, Apple store did not believe my facts and insisted that I must have dropped it, I have just come across these news articles vindicating my strong belief that the iPhone 4 material on the screen is very fregile and can be easily damaged by everyday use even by smallest of misfortune.
As recommanded in one of these articles, Apple should consider replacing the front screen with the material used by Motorola devices which is scratch-proof and shatter-proof.
Until then, I will be under constant fear of damaging my screen.iPhone 4
Currently Being ModeratedMar 25, 2011 1:06 PM (in response to Alamodave)FWIW Apple has been great & very sympathetic w/ several iPhone4 woes.
Go to the Genius bar.
First one replaced b/c of etching on the metal sides that occurred from the
1st generation bumper.
Second one, they replaced out of sympathy... I simply asked what my options
were; explained I had it for several weeks & had not yet put a new bumper on.
& that it got a hairline crack when it slid out of my pocket while I was stepping
out of my car. The G-guys reply was, "We don't normally do this but, it appears
to be a hairline crack & does not look to be abuse. We can make an exchange
this one time...". Then he asked if the phone was backed up, etc.
TBH I was so pleased I bought the new bumper & a 1TB G-Drive...
Just my lucky experience. Bol2ug5 tower, mac pro, blk macbook &...

(I personally don't blame them on this one.) I just got my screen repaired at RepairZoom. Really liked this service - very professional easy. http://www.repairzoom.com Good luck!!iPhone 4, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedApr 3, 2011 11:31 AM (in response to snoball)I just went to the Apple store yesterday and had a wonderful experience.
I have an iPhone 4 that the screen cracked just by putting it on a ceramic tile countertop, face down. I walked away after putting it down, then came back a few minutes later and saw the screen had cracked. I then purchased a OtterBox Defender case in an attempt to hold the glass in place. After a week, the glass felt like it was beginning to push up against the protective screen on the OtterBox case.
I went to the Apple store and explained my situation and they replaced the damaged iPhone 4 with a new one, no questions asked. What else can you ask for from a company??MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

OK, get this...a co-worker of mine dropped his iPad on his iPhone...seriously. Smashed the heck out of the iPhone. So bad that when he tried to replace the glass, he found that the frame of the phone was bent on both front and back.
So...he took it to the Apple Store. They replaced it (a year old iphone) at NO CHARGE! You gotta love Apple's Customer service.

My phone fell out of my pocket at work. It was maybe a foot or less. I had it in a case with a screen protector. It spider webbed pretty bad. I made an appointment with a Genius the very next day. Since it was my first time in they waived the $199 replacement fee. I've been an iPhone user since '08 and at this point will be for life!!! (AT&T could learn a thing or two from Apple)
