Cracked screen of my new iPhone 4

Dropped Iphone 4 -- shattered front screen...phone is only a week old 😟
Any ideas on what kind of sympathy I may get from Apple?

I got a small crack in mine and I read on some of these forums that some Apple stores were replacing phones with cracked screens so I thought I'd try it. Sure enough. They replaced my phone with a brand new one at no cost. This was on 07/07. I was told the boss decided to cover it because, "The glass should have been stronger than that." He said that because I didn't actually drop my phone to get the crack. I had the phone in my pocket with NOTHING else but my Apple headphones. It must have been the headphone jack because you could see a small chip and then the crack. Kind of like a car windshield. Good luck to all of you who crack your screen.

The iPhone 4 is non-serviceable. It is strategically designed so that you buy a new one in an event like this.

Replacement screens run for $125 on eBay and the repair is rated extremely difficult on iFixit.com. I have done this repair and can confirm it

The iPhone 4 is the greatest design to ever hit your wallet. I simply hate it.

Also dont bother with the apple bumpers to protect your phone, yes they are better than nothing but i always get a full front and back case. Always paranoid about the screen getting cracked or scratched so ive now opted for a Crystal Style case that covers the whole phone and just clips together.

Other cases look nicer but its all about protection with a case 🙂

I dropped mine yesterday, about two feet onto the ground outside out of my car and the screen is all spider webbed. I dropped my 3GS a bunch of times and this never happened. I did have a screen protector and case on it as well.. Do you think Apple would be able to fix it? It is definitely not made well to shatter so easily.

Take it to your closest Apple store. Be VERY nice. Be VERY honest and let them know you dropped it. Look VERY sad. If you do this, and you get a sympathetic Apple rep, you may just get a new phone without paying a dime. If you don't, you'll only have to pay Apple $199 for a replacement. Given the fact the phones cost way more, that's a good deal......
