Asking for user verification in App Store?

Yes, I'm having the same issue. I read an article yesterday in the New York Times that might have something to do with it:

The second-to-last paragraph talks about how Apple is now going to ask for security numbers more often. The trouble is, I dutifully go in and enter all my information, but then it asks for it all over again and you're caught in a loop from ****.

I haven't found a solution yet.

Maybe I'm confused, but everytime I update apps, or download a free app, I've always had to put in my app store password before the update or download would take place. Always. Even with my 3G, befor iOS4.

Yes you will be asked for your password for every transaction inside the appstore, and outside it when apple finds an update or wants to check some information.

I found that if your jailbroken, and you leave the app store running, it will only ask for your credentials once, and will stop until you shut your phone down or delete the app store from the background process.

Yes it was password every time, but due to the recent hacking incident you'll need to enter the security code off of the credit card you have on file too.

wow....I hope I can remember which card I used to set up my account with......

I'm having this same issue. Has anyone had any luck with this? I tried putting in a different card number and it still just loops over and over.

I'm still not being asked for anything other than my standard App Store/iTunes password. I updated several apps last night and downloaded some new ones and it worked just like it did on my 3G previously.......

I've never seen the Apps Store ask me for any of this information. I do and always have, had to enter my Apple password to download any thing from the App Store. I think I would draw the line if I had to enter a credit card along with the security number on the back of the card.

Has anyone who had this problem had a previous problem with paying a bill because their credit card company refused to pay a charge for whatever reason?

Apparently some app developer in Vietnam was trying to get an app approved that was actually a scam. And, for those of you who think that the "open" apps from Google are better than the "closed" apps that are all reviewed by Apple, here's a big piece of evidence that supports Apple's way.

That being said, Apple has changed its security procedures at the iTunes store. It's annoying, but I'm OK with it. I use PayPal to fund my purchases at the iTunes store, because there are more security procedures if you make your password difficult to farm.

I know that putting in your security code often is a pain, but it's a good pain, I hope.

When you say "security code", do you mean my Apple password? If so, I have no problem with that.

I would not update your credit card via the iPhone. There may be problems updating your credit card number and CCV2 (3 digit code on the back of the credit card or on some vendors it's on the front right) over the 3G network. It's better to use your iTunes at home and visit the account information to update your credit card's information where it is safe and secure.

You now have to enter the 3 digit security code on the back of you credit card to download even a free app, but you do not have to have a credit card on file for your iTunes account to download FREE apps. If you do not have access to a credit card to download apps you can just enter "NONE" in the menu that asks wha kind of card you are using (ie. Visa, MC, etc.). Just enter "NONE" and you're good to go for downloading FREE apps. You can also buy apps without a credit card as well by buying an iTunes gift card from one of those gift card kiosks in the grocery store, Best Buy, Apple Store, or wherever and then activate it in your iTunes account on the computer.

When you say "security code", do you mean my Apple password? If so, I have no problem with that.

CCV code.

Yes it is a pain that stupid hackers make life hard for all of us but entering the security code is still easier than calling your credit card company to change your card number not to mention changing all of your auto-pays when a hacker like the one that hit last week charged some people's itunes account over $500.

I got my phone today and ave been running into this problem. I talked with iPhone tech support and after a little while she decided it was an itunes problem not a iPhone problem and said I have to contact them. I sent email to them a few minutes ago we shall see what happens.
