Asking for user verification in App Store?

When I do anything in the App Store, whether it's a free update or buying a new app, I am being asked to verify my user credentials, and have to enter the security code from my credit card every time. This just started happening over the past few days. Anyone else seeing this behavior?

Well, this credit card problem above must either only apply to setting up a new iTunes account or the manner in which you elect to pay for items purchased. I gave them a credit card number maybe a couple of years ago and 3 phones ago (3G, 3G S and now IP4).

They NEVER ask me for my CCV number. I just bought an album to check it out. Anyway, unless it only applies to new accounts, it must have something to do with a member's credit rating.

I want to reiterate again that my issue isn't with putting the CCV number the first time. It's the endless loop as described a couple posts up. New app downloads work fine but any upgrades of any sort don't work.

When you state new app downloads work fine, does that also mean new music, new movies, new etc? And when you state ANY upgrades, do you mean upgrades to iTunes software or upgrades to an existing App? For example my iTunes version is 9.2 (Mac Style). If 9.3 popped up, you're saying I would have to enter my CCV number?

Regardless of what generates a CCV request, I've never received this request for new apps, updates to apps, music purchases, iTunes updates or an occasional movie rental. Therefore, it would seem to me to be a credit card problem between the Apple Store and a customer. Or maybe they just ask high volume customers for this information because they fear fraud with a compromised credit card. Or maybe I'm just "blessed".

Im having the issue as well. All I am trying to do is update apps Ive already purchased and it is asking me to confirm my credit card info. Everything is correct with the security code (CCV) blank. When I fill it in it continues to say it is an invalid number even though the number is clearly printed on the card. Please post a workaround when you hear back from iTunes...

Same here. Had no problems before, now won't allow me to update my apps on the iPhone. Have re-entered all details from scratch, still no joy.

(Mind you, this is the third iPhone4 I've had, and the problem is only with this one. (The other two had faulty speakerphone and camera). I really don't want to have to go back to the Apple store again for a fourth replacement. Hopefully this is a software issue. Same hope I had with the last two phones...)

Same here. I've had my iPhone 4 for a few weeks now and have updated apps without issue. Today, I can't. I'm trying to update Shazam and it continually prompts with "Verification Required: Before you can make purchases, you must tap OK to sign in, then verify you payment info." This takes you to your iTunes store account info page and shows that the Security Code is "Required". Whether you fill in this information or not, clicking "Done" just takes you back to the App Store. Once you get back there I've had two separate issues. 1. The App update shows as "Installed" and you can't try again, but it wasn't actually updated. 2. You can try installing the update again, but it will take you through the same **** loop.

I tried restarting the phone. Signing in and out of iTunes App store account. Re-syncing with iTunes. None of it helps. I think the App store is just screwed up.

This work around fixed the issue for me:

It appears the information you enter when the 'verification required' message pops up, updates the account you are logged into on your iPhone (settings>store) but not the account information that your iPhone actually uses to send credentials to the app store server.

If you can't remember your old account to sign in with. The following worked for me:

Open 'Settings' click 'Store' and sign out. Then go back to update apps and click to update the app. Your old account e-mail address will be displayed. Type you apple password to login. Confirm the details are correct (in my case it displayed different credit card details to the account I'm now using on my iMac) enter the CCV number for the credit card and the app will update.

You can now go back to settings>store sign out you old account and sign in with your new account and still be able to update your apps.

This workaround also worked for me. I have two accounts and this was likely tripping it up. Just to be safe, I logged out of my iTunes account on both my iPhone and my PC. Then I went into each account on my PC iTunes and ensured the credit card information was up-to-date for both. I signed out of both and then went back to the iPhone and ran the App update process. I logged into my account, verified my credit card info, clicked Done, then had to accept the new iTunes agreement, then finally I could install the update. Now works fine again. Whew!

An update on this. Some people have been saying this could relate to your iTunes account. I dont think that's the case - I was able to update my apps on my iPad just fine (and they all link to the same iTunes account). This seems like an issue specific to the iphone app store. Also, I went to the Genius Bar today and they recommended I back-up and restore my phone. Needless to say, that didn't work. Hopefully someone else has better luck at the Genius Bar; frankly I'm tired of tech support people telling me to reboot, reinstall or update software as their only fixes.
