Iphone 4 blank and vibrate=dead

My iphone shut down today after 3 days since purchase i thought i had a message but the screen was off and it was constantly vibrating, wouldnt turn on or off and it would not go into dfu, i plugged it in to pc and it wasnt recognised, so i let it use the battery until it died (4hrs) 😟 then plugged it in and it woke up as if nothing happened, has anyone else had this problem and apple do you have a fix or is it a common fault until software update, hope it doesnt happen again as i need my phone incase of emergency for kids! Cheers

Hello, yes i also had this problem, iphone in my pocket on standby, suddenly starts vibrating , i take phone out, no screen , no lights, just vibrating and nothing will stop it, after about 3 minutes, it stopped by itself and phone was completly dead , i did a double button 20 sec press and it rebooted and has been working ok since .

Because the iphone was in standby when this happened, i at first suspected the mobile signal provider and called them, they said i had overloaded it by having too many apps open etc and it had gone into system overload, i quickly stopped this incorrect analysis and their technician had no further answer , but it was working fine again

So i would like to hear from apple an explanation for this , as it could prove a critical inconvenience if it happens again and does not reboot , and basically i dont like unexplained problems that can ambush you

It happened with me today. My iphone went dead and started vibrate non-stop for several hours, no response to power down. I called Apple tech support! And although they did not explian the reason, the person on the phone suggested to replaced it for $149. He scheuled an appointment for phone replacement in nearby store within and hour. The person in the store "tried" to fix it with no luck although I explianed that I did all possible manupulations as she did.

Got a new phone. I did not drop this phone in a water, or anywhere else. It just suddenly died...

Just happened to Me! full charge, was sitting on a table ~ I had not even used it for hours and all of a sudden I heard it vibrating and coudn't get it to stop!

I have had my phone for 2 years. waiting on the new one to buy.. LOOKS like there is an issue because of all the google searches going on.

I have watched my apple computer crash for its 20th time for a project I am working on.... so when this happend I thought I was going to throw them all out into the rain!

I bought apple products because I thought that they could not get bugs. I am starting to wonder!

This problem has been public for some time now so Apple must be aware of it.

Obvious prognosis are

1.They dont know whats causing it yet - seems doubtful after this amount of time, if it was a software problem they could have stripped that out with an update

2. its a problem with the iphone 4 hardware, which begs the question , has it happened with a 3 series or the newer iphone 4 ? and if a problem with the hardware, theres no way they will recall all the phones , maybe its only happening in certain circumstances relating to interfacing with a data phone signal provider

3. A top windows engineer has done his job (:

Take your choice

This has happened to me also. I am currently searching how to fix this now for the second time, last time my phone's screen went blank and vibrated and resetting it with the home & off buttons for 10 long second it stopped vibrating and went back to the apple screen, but then died again (but the internal backlight was on) and would occasionally go blue and 'fuzzy' like a TV with no reception, and then after charging it all night it bleeped in the morning and woke up but with no battery charge - and after charging another 3-4 hours it worked again. Now 5 days later I have a worse problem. It is presently vibrating and no amount of pressingthe home/reset functions buttons will stop it vibrating (no - i even tried for 30 seconds as per another forum discussion) and now when i plug it into my macbook itunes won't even recognise it is there so i can't restore it (or back it up!) Half way through the week also it shut down once while using an app even though the battery was good - but that time the reset worked first try. Each time it has done this I have been using a different app. The first time it happened I actually ran out of battery while on a walk using a new 'pedometer/track my run' app - and i was so convinced it was the app's fault i deleted the app - but i know that that particular app is no longer responsible - this time it happened while using an app i've had for 8 months - ever since i bought my new iphone 4. I am very worried and have no phone company store in my town so will have to go without a phone and send it away to apple in the hope they replace it, in the mean time i guess i'll lose everything on my phone since it was last backed up (yes - i wish i'd done that this week !)

A week ago my iPhone started just shutting off on its own. Mainly this happens after 10pm. It has been happening at least once a day. We took it to Apple store and they did a diagnostic test and said nothing wrong. They said to a software reset which we did. Last night as I was drifting off to sleep I heard a strange sound and realized my phone was vibrating constantly. It was off. So I did a hard reset. This is frustrating me. I have kids at camps, etc that may need to get ahold of me and this is causing me to not get texts, calls, etc. is there ANY recent update on how to fix this?

Had this happen today on an iphone 4. Started vibrating uncontrollably and then died. Tried turning on/off and hard rebooting but nothing worked. Plugged into computer to try and sync but itunes wouldn't recognize the phone. Tried hard rebooting (power button and home button) again and this time it worked.

Thanks for all of the posts. You guys kept me trying the reboot even after it didn't work the first time. This is a very useful thread!

This is a strange one and I hope Apple gets it figured out.

WOW! ATTENTION Apple - You "Geniuses" better get on this FAST.

Here's my "experience":

I was talking with a friend and about five minutes after hanging up, the same old story posted here many times over happened:

My iPhone 4 vibrated uncontrolably for about 2-3 minutes with a dead blank screen. Pressing and holding the 'power' and 'home' buttons individually did nothing. Finally after the vibrations stopped, my phone was absolutely dead - plugging it into the power-charge cable & connecting it to my MacBook didn't help a thing. I was suddenly worried that my $550 phone would result in a really unexpected, pricey nightmare - something I NEVER would have expected, given my great experiences with Apple products...

Finally, pressing and holding both the 'home' and 'power' buttons together for about 20-30 seconds seemed to remedy the issue. The phone works fine right now, but I'm wondering if this issue will come up again? I've only had the phone for a year and do not run ANY apps / social media / email on it - the phone's solid state drive should be functioning absolutely perfectly. Is this a software glitch that hasn't been debugged??

I bought an iPhone to avoid such issues in the first place, so needless to say this problem is a shocker!

I had the same problem. Black screen and forever vibrating. It wouldn't turn off to reboot so I figured try something different. So I held down the buttons that you hold to take a photo of your screen, which is the little button on top (that you hold to power off and on) and the round little apple "home" button on the front under the screen. If you hold both of those down and you just keep holding eventually your phone should reboot out of this phase of continual vibration and a screen that is turned off. You will see the white apple logo and then the vibration will stop. This will boot up your iPhone. I have a white iPhone4, and that is what works for me.

I do not know what causes it, but when my phone rebooted it said I had 19 missed voice mails, but in reality I had only missed 1 call and apparently it is when that call came in that my iPhone went crazy.... I did have a lot of apps open, way too many voice mails, and lots of photos, and it is pretty much time to clear some of this stuff off of my iPhone, so just remember, just like a PC can freeze up, so can an iPhone. Pretty annoying when it does though.
Good luck!

By the way, if this works for you please "like" my comment so others can find it.

Much appreciated! Love ya! 😍
