iPhone does not sync to iCal

I am running version 4.0. Since the upgrade my iPhone does not sync events back to iCal on my Macbook Pro. It does sync the other way--iCal to iPhone, but I need it to do both. I have looked in all the easy places for an answer. I must be missing something. What can I do.

That would be fabulous, but I spent hours entering all the details of a two week business trip on my I phone after my Macbook was destroyed. I want to put all info on back-up Mac, but It has stopped accepting iCal from iOS4 iPhone...I am seriously wondering about new platforms for my information (which I also don't want floating in a "cloud". *Spent 10 hours with no solution so far.* If I knew that there was a problem, I could have typed it all in by now... Maybe back to a Filofax???

I also experienced the same problem, i.e. iCal not syncing with iPhone. Contrary to most other users who experienced this problem, for me it appeared after updating the MacOS to 10.6.4, long before I updated the iPhone to OS4.
Now, thanks to janice0927 suggestion, it perfectly works, but I had to do one more thing in order to solve the problem:

Reset the sync history on your Mac. This is done in the iSync (located in the Application folder) preferences. After selecting "reset sync history", restart your Mac.

Afterward, follow the same procedure janice0927 suggested. For your convenience, I copied the steps here below:

1. You are going to be pushing your calendar from ical onto your iphone so you will lose any events that are currently on your iphone but not on ical -- you will need to update ical manually to ensure you don't lose anything important.

2. Scroll down in the info tab in itunes to the Advanced options at the bottom -- where it says replace the information on my iphone and select calendar.

3. Sync, check that your iphone calendar matches your ical calendar

4. Add a new test event to the iphone (the selection you made in advanced should have automatically deselected after you sync'd but check just to make sure)

5. Sync again -- check if your test event was transferred.

Good Luck!

Looks like I finally solved it. I had tried everything else in this threat, none of it worked.

iCal on my Mac and Calendar on MobileMe were syncing fine in both directions, but the iPhone wasn't syncing. Here's what worked.

Make sure you back up your correct data first (in my case, exporting an iCal Archive from iCal on my Mac).

I deleted the MobileMe account from my iPhone (Setting > Mail, Contacts Calendars > [Account name] > Delete Account). When prompted on what to do with the email, calendar entries, etc., select Delete from iPhone.

One the account is gone, on the Mail, Contacts, Calendars menu, click Add Account, set up the MobileMe account again. Once I did that, and gave it a few minutes to sync up, everything appears to be working.

The issue I am having, after resetting syncs and replacing mobile me with my iCal stuff (which works fine), is when I put in an appointment on my iPhone 4, it syncs up to mobile me, AND to my iCal, but nothing I put in iCal (or directly on mobile me) does not sync down to the iPhone. I am getting one way syncing over the air. I have to sync with the computer to get the events I put in on ical or Mobile me. I get up syncing, but no down syncing to the iphone with calendar.

Thing is, under os3 on my Touch, it worked flawlessly. Obviously, this is either an iphone 4 or OS 4 issue. From reading the posts, seems to be an OS4 bug.

I have spent most of the day trying to remedy this problem that some of us have and I think I have an answer. I have a 3G iphone but do not use mobile me. When I upgraded to 4.0.1 on my iphone my calendar became a mess. I lost my newest events that I had input after my last sync (I forgot to sync before I did the upgrade--my bad). And after the upgrade I was unable to get my iCal events from my iPhone to be backed up in my iCal on my computer. Basically, my computer was not recognizing the calendar from my iPhone. Since I put events into my calendar in both ways (computer and iphone) I need them to sync. Also, the events from my computer were uploading to my iPhone but they were added in a different color which had never happened before. I tried resetting my isync history as someone mentioned. I tried unchecking "sync Calendars" in iTunes in order for it to erase the calendar from my iPhone which actually it never did erase it. And I think I tried a number of other things that people have suggested have worked for them but nothing worked for me. I bit the bullet and paid the $29 technical support fee for a single issue and they gave me the answer. (I was only on hold for about 10 minutes so it wasn't too bad.) Hope this works and saves you $29.

They told me to restore my iPhone to its original settings. Unfortunately, this restores it to 4.0.1 still. No chance at getting it back to 4.0. So I restored my iphone to its original settings. With the iphone connected, open itunes. Click on your iphone under "devices" to get to the summary page. Under Version, click "restore." Someone may want to chime in here and say you need to make sure you back things up before you do this. I'm sure you do. It will clear your whole iphone. You'll lose music, pictures, podcasts, books, calendars, contacts, texts, etc. I imagine text history won't come back no matter what you do. I just did a regular sync to back everything up. (After this whole process, when I synced it again, everything that was important to me came back up...but I don't have music on my phone so I don't know about that.)

Here's an important piece though...when it says something like "restore to a new phone or restore to your old backup" I tried to do it with the back up and I still had the same calendar problems. Then I did it again and restored it as a new phone. Voila, problem fixed. The technical support guy suggested before you click on the restore button, make sure you unclick everything in iTunes that says "sync" except for your calendars. This will save you time if it doesn't work. So when you sync with the computer after the restore, you can test out if it worked by entering something into your iPhone calendar and syncing again to see if the computer picks it up. And test it the other way too. Once you see that it works, go back through and check the sync box on everything that you want synced.

I apologize if my writing was not easy to follow but I hope that I've saved someone $29. This was a solution that I did not see in all of my searching for hours today.

Well, I went through your process, as you stated, and basically changed nothing. I de-selected everything however, even calendars. I also, did not change the settings on the phone after the Restore. I just made sure my Mobile me was set up properly, and checked things out. For the first time, syncing is working both ways. I restored as a new phone, then over the next few syncs, added my music, my apps, etc. Seems to be working quite well now. Thanks for spending the 29 bucks!! I believe this has answered my calendar question.

I had the same problem with my new iPhone4, calendars would not sync. I am using MobileMe. I tried all the solutions I found in that thread and what worked for me was to restore the phone and set it as a new one, and then sync apps, music, photos, videos one by one. I think that the problem was that I configured mobileme in my new phone first, as I had no time to sync it immediatly. Then I synchronized it and it probably messed up Mobileme, as it was already installed and came back again with the synchronization. Would that be possible? Anyhow, now everything is working fine...

Same issue with an iPhone 3GS, running iOS 4.0.1 and an iMac running 10.6.4. After updating the phone to 4.0.1 it will no longer sync the calendar info that is on the phone to iCal. No message indicating that more than 5% of the data is being changed, all it does is wipe the calendar from the phone and replace it with the calendar info from iCal. The most recent up to date calendar exists on the phone and it refuses to merge with iCal. Have tried resetting sync history, tried setting iCal back to defaults by removing Calendars folder from user library, and tried resetting sync framework through the Terminal as Apple's support document suggests. Have tried it about 10 times, have resorted to restoring the phone back to the point when it was backed up before it updated and turning off data syncing. Awaiting a solution.

Same thing happened to my iphone 4 - all the events on my phone cal were wiped by the blank ical on my new mac. Now i do have my events on my old phone (3GS) - any ideas how i can get those to move onto the new phone ? I tried to sync the old phone to another mac and it wiped the calendar again - but this time i could restore a backup to get it back. Trouble with the iphone 4 is that i did a sync after the calendar was wiped so i cannot restore to the point just before like you seem to have done. Is it possibly to restore selectively from a previous backup ? I can see in the folder "mobilesync" that there is a backup in there from just before my calendar disaster, but how do i restore the calendar without restoring all the other things which will make my phone look like it was 4 weeks ago, which is when this happened? WOuld really appreciate if someone knows how to selectively restore backups or a clever way of just getting my calendar back on my new phone?
