I've always trusted Apple and when I was given the option to update, I did as I always did. Now I'm regretting it. Apple needs to help us with this problem. My phone is very slow and many usual functions are not working.

Does anyone know if Apple is working on this. I'd hate for this to sour customer's view of Apple. We need a fix! I'm hesitant to go online and do something out there on the web. Any ideas??

I know that you don't need a Mac to perform the downgrade, because I did it on an XP machine and it worked fine. You just need to do a couple of extra steps that's all (.net framework 4.0 installed, LibUSB installed, recboot for windows, and a dll file). All these things are easy to find by using google. I know it's probably a more straightforward process on OSX, but it's certainly not the only option. I have heard that vista/win7 are trickier in that you need to run certain programs involved in "XP compatibility mode". I use Win7 as my main PC, but as I have a spare XP machine lying around, I opted to do it on that instead.

I feel badly for those who truly have problems with the new OS. But to make a blanket statement that there's nothing but bad reviews is incorrect and frankly, the reason I finally logged in to post. I have a 3GS. I updated to OS4.0 with zero problems. I might not really like having all apps that I have opened stay listed in the "multitask" bar, but whatever, that is a preference not a problem. If anything, my battery life has improved with OS4. Like I said, zero problems.
Also, we just got my wife the iPhone4. Again, zero problems. All roses here.

Jonty71 - Assuming you're following something like the guide available on Lifehacker, ensure that on a Windows machine you have .NET 4 installed, libUSB and run iRecovery in XP Compatability mode and make sure you go into properties for it and run as administrator. The first time I tried it didn't work, the second time was a charm because I made sure I took all of those steps. Good luck 😉

Seriously? What planet are you on? OS 4.0 has had nothing but bad reviews since LONG before it was released. I just updated not one, but 2 3G phones with this software and they are both doing the exact SAME thing. So, honestly, unless you particularly know something the rest of the planet doesn't please, don't tell me it works fine, cause it doesn't. Every post on here about this software making phones sluggish, not responding, not performing the same are exactly correct.

Hey Jerk Weed! There is nothing wrong with voicing your issues within these discussions. In case you didn't know, that's why it's called a discussion so everyone can figure out what options work best for them. What are you? The apple police? Give me a break! If apple read what their loyal customers were experiencing with O.S. 4.0, then they might understand and fix the issue.

Another very unhappy Iphone user. I upgraded to iOS4 on my 3G which took 2 tries and 6 hours each time. Upon using the phone for the first time the internal microphone would not work. So I took it to the "Genuises" at the Apple store, waited 1 1/2 hours and just blamed it on water damage and wouldn't listen to the real problem. The water damage occurred 15 months ago and the phone worked perfectly up until the moment I installed iOS4. So now I can only use the phone with a bluetooth headset or the wired headset and continue to have constant problems with it crashing and overall dramatically slower performance. Their is a serious problem with iOS4 and the Iphone 3G!

Now I go to Apple support site and they don't allow users to downgrade. Combine this with Apple continuing to choose AT&T as their provider so they can extract more money out of their customers. It is clear that Apple is choosing money over customer loyalty. My new phone will not be an Apple product which is a shame as 3 months ago, I was a strong Apple supporter.

Me and at least 10 my friend have these problem after upgrade:

a) A lot of lag
b) Music in ipod function is reproduced with a lot of interruptions and the phone sometimes hangs
c) Bluetooth stops working
d) GPS doesn't work
e) Wi.Fi sensitivity is decreased dramatically and often is impossible to connect to the same access point to that we could connect good before upgrade.

What Apple intend to do to resolve this issues?
We haven't choice to downgrade IOS, but we paid a lot of money (499€ in italy) for a device that NOW is not compliant with functions that it had when we decide to spend that money.

it's the time for unsatisfied user to receive a response!

this is not supported by Apple

Correct.

and cannot be discussed on this forum

Where did that come from? If procedures given do NOT involve any hacking or jail breaking I don't see how this would violate the TOS.

If someone is trying to use a printer, camera, Hard Drive, etc. with their Mac that is NOT on a list of 'supported' devices, then they should not be helped?

I see the poster edited this comment after you quoted. I have seen this same response so many times on these forums.

This is a much more serious problem than the iPhone 4 'death grip'. People come here, not unsurprisingly, desperate for support, and get this same response time and again.

Yes, they should read through the threads, where the same issue has come up repeatedly, but it is quite possibly because so many threads recently appeared on these forums that the issue of the death grip became 'news'.

The topic of downgrading IS discussed here quite openly (thanks Apple for not deleting these threads). Many others like me have provided links to websites that provide full descriptions of the process of downgrading.

Apple has now acknowledged this problem (finally), and will hopefully provide a solution.
