IPhone 4 Bluetooth Issues

IPhone 4 doesn't allow reasonable range and other issues with bluetooth headset. Fyi, tried with Apple Bluetooth headset which worked perfectly with IPhone 3G & IPhone 3G-S. Issue, you can have IPhone 4 in shirt or pant pocket and bluetooth will disconnect. Also, you can have IPhone 4 inside car and close the door while standing right outside the door and bluetooth disconnects. This never happened with previous models including IPhone 3G-S with IOS 4 installed.

Other bluetooth issues: as others reported - muffled sound quality to person your talking to. Time delays and disconnects with bluetooth Uconnect. IPhone 4 won't let you change between your car audio phone feature back to IPhone 4 without freezing.

I have the Bose Bluetooth and have issues with hearing, the voice is jumbled up and it will make a noise during a conversation and have to ask them to repeat what they said. While talking it will beep, it will also jump to the phone and the Bose is still connected to the phone, I tried to go back to the Bose but there is no sound. I hope apple will fix this issue with the phone or exchange for the new iPhone 5 when it comes out.

I have found that rebooting my iPhone 4 tends to clear up bluetooth problems. I have a Jawbone ICON that I use a lot for listening to audiobooks and podcasts. Sometimes it loses range and won't work if, for example the phone is in my pants pocket or even on the other side of my head from my headset.

Re-pairing the headset doesn't help, but powering down the phone and restarting it seems to clear up the problem.

Agree with all the many posts here over the last year - where is Apple on this issue?????

Sound quality has improved, but connect/disconnect remains a huge problem. I have BMW speakphone in car and Plantronics earpiece - both paired. When Iphone 4 is moved out of range, BT disconnects. When brought back in range, rarely does it reconnect without restarting both BT on the Iphone and the BT device. So when I get in the car with the iphone 4 and turn on the car, it doesn't connect. Then I have to pull off the road, turn off BT on the iphone, turn off the car, turn on BT on the iphone and quickly restart the car.

Brilliant experience from Apple, right?

WAKE UP APPLE! I'm getting ready to go back to my Blackberry Curve from 2007 (which never had any BT problems.)

Exactly my problem with my Verizon iPhone 4 on my plantronics 655, 665, 725, (I keep loosing them so have to replace them often) and Motorola S9-HD. Everyone complains of my voice being muffled, and I often find I cannot hear people clearly, and one said the 725 made me sound like Donald Duck. HOWEVER FOR THE MOTOROLA S9-HD IN THE STEREO HEADPHONE MODE THE AUDIO STREAMING IS GREAT, AND I AM AN AUDIOPHILE. However in order to get adequate volume for the audio streaming I did a blanket increase of all songs on my iTunes so my classical is loud enough due to the dynamic range. For alternative rock and popular I have to turn it down.

NOTE: All bluetooth earpieces and stereo headphones are very susceptible to WiFi interference even from WiFi signals that are too weak to deliver an internet connection. I and another engineer left the bluetooth group when they were developing the bluetooth spec as we thought they were not up to the task.

I have been following this problem for nearly 8 months waiting for the BIG ANSWER from the company. Nothing. My 3 was great. My 4 stinks. Can't connect without constant restarts as everyone else has described whether next to the road, before the road or during the drive. Somebody said that Appo won't do anything until it gets sued by the poor dude who crashed on account of the faulty bt. Are you kidding? Is this so hard? I suggest that one of you smarter than the rest figure out a way to increase the volume to the company so that some clever wonk working in the back on some issue we don't care about gets this handled. Appo Wake Up.

I agree. This is ridiculous. Trust me, Apple's ignoring this. I've called many times and each time the person on the other end acts like they've never heard of this issue. Give it a rest. There not going to do anything about it until we all buy Droids. They hoping well all forget about it and buy the iPhone 5 when it's available. Unless they address this real soon, this will be my last iPhone. And by the way, yes I agree I guess theyre not taking the safety issue very seriously. Otherwise they would have atleast acknowledged the problem. Maybe when someone gets killed, they will. I think someone should go to the media with this. I'm keeping copies of all the posts on here about it.

Good luck!

Dear fellow iPhone users:

My story was much the same -- when I moved from the 3 to the 4, the bluetooth had frustrating dropouts, and, yes, when I called Apple, they acted like they never heard of that... Sounded like BS to me based on this forum.

But I took my iPhone to my local Apple store and they hooked it up to a diagnostic, and the guy (the "Genius"-bar guy) told me immediately "Yup, it's defective" and they gave me a new one that is working fine -- like where I can again roam around my house with the phone on a table 20 feet away.

So there. I hope and pray (for your blood-pressure's sake) that y'all can have the same happy ending to your stories.

All bluetooth devices work great in cars or building such as Golds Gym where they have no WiFi of any kind.

What is even worse about Apple is that the earbuds that they sold if angled so they fit tightly into the ear canal and you didn't mind looking dorky you got very good bass. They didn't last for more than 3 months with continuous use as the pressure would blow out the diaphragms, and I listen mostly to classical. So I restricted them for use in emergencies. With the iPhone 4 the new earbuds with the iPhone are so bad that they sound like something from the 1930's. So bought a $10 Sony over your ear earbuds and they are OK in emergencies.
