Roland A-49 not recognized by MacBook Pro 2018

The only way I can use A-49 is to connect with these instructions:

  1. On the A49, hold down the S1 and S2 button while plugging in the USB cable from the hub to the keyboard. Once the unit has turned on, you can let go.
  2. Press the following buttons in the order they are listed to change the driver to iPad mode:
    • Function -> ADV -> [+]

And I have tried to install driver according to https://www.roland.com/global/support/support_news/1804131013/

but nothing happens when I reboot the computer and I've tried this install several times according to the instructions.

What am I doing wrong or is this 2018 MacBook Pro incompatible with A-49?

High Sierra 10.13.6
