Locked out of A1398 (EMC 2909)

Hello, I have purchased a 2015 MacBook Pro A1398 (EMC 2909) (https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.5-15-iris-only-mid-2015-retina-display-specs.html)

The seller had a firmware password, so I cannot factory reset the machine using CMD+R for Recovery Mode. I found this article indicating that RAM may be removed to force a reset of firmware password, but this machine's RAM is soldered to the logic board.

Can anyone help me? The seller is refusing to refund the purchase, and I am in trouble. Thank you for your time.

That article is old, and I don't think that technique works any more. Without the firmware password, you cannot boot from a different drive or install a new MacOS.

There is a word for mis-representing the monetary value of an item you sell. That word is Fraud.

Apple can reset the firmware password for you, but they need to see paperwork that shows the unit is not stolen. Did the seller have it registered with Apple, or have an original bill-of-sale?

Just your record of purchase from a third party may not be good enough, since maybe they stole it. (Apple does NOT get involved in allegations of theft, so they do not have a list of stolen devices.)
