iPad not recognizing external mic

I'm trying to send audio from a video camera into my iPad for voice recognition in a teleprompter app. I'm coming out of the headphone jack of the camera into the headphone jack of the iPad. I have the necessary TRS to TRRS adapter (Rode SC4) which oddly enough, appears to work with my iPhone 6. However, it does not with my iPad Air 2.

Any reason why it would work with one, but not the other?

Hey Daddio ,

I see you have problem with using external Mic with Ipad Air 2 , If you are plugging the 3.5mm jack from the microphone straight into the iPad it will not work.

Please take a look at this YouTube video:

It will do a good job of explaining the differences between the Apple connector and the more often than not "regular" connector of other products. You need to understand the prerequisites first and go from there (there are two types of connector and maybe you have the wrong one?) .

I'm not sure. The TRRS connector is (I believe) what the iPhone uses but I'm not certain about the iPad.

Also you might like to check out the RODE app if you don't have it installed already and see if you can fiddle some settings in there:

Hope this assists you in your endeavor.

Cheers.
