Macbook air a1304 (2008/09) performance in 2018

I'm thinking about picking up an older Macbook Air just to do some light tasks on for school. I already have a great iMac that can handle anything I throw at it, but I need a throw-around beater laptop to carry around with me. I know that I could get a better PC for a similar price, but I am drawn to the older 08/09 Macbook air models because of their classic design and the cool door that houses the ports. My question is, would these machines be usable with their stock configurations (Typically 2gb Ram and a 120gb HDD, the Ram is not upgradable.) on El capitan or Yosemite in 2018? I just want something for word process, email, and light photoshop work. I'm not expecting anything lighting fast, and I have dealt with and used older macs on El Capitan before such as an older 2007 Macbook pro. Any help would be appreciated, especially from people who have used these machines before or someone with a low-end mac using newer operating systems. Thanks!

MacBook Air (2018 or later)
