Reinstall Mac OS Lion in MacBook Pro

Hi

I was just given a 2012 MacBook Pro with 500GB, problem is it has no OS. I’m new to Macs so booted with command+r and got the the window to reinstall Mac OS Lion. Problem is there is no disk to select

Going into disk utilities I see the hard drive though so it seems to be detected. Not sure why it can’t be seen when trying to reinstall. I tried creating a partition using disk utilities but it would fail. Same for erasing. Booting in safe made gives a flashing folder with a question mark that seems to go on endlessly. Not sure what else to try. I have a snow leopard install disk with no luck with that either. I want to try and install Mac OS X Lion from usb but until I get my hands on it I’m out of ideas. Any help?

Your model uses Network Recovery. No disks required:

Internet/Network Recovery of El Capitan or Later on a Clean Disk

If possible back up your files before proceeding.

    1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the (Command-Option-Shift-R) keys until a globe appears.
    2. The Utility Menu will appear in from 5-20 minutes. Be patient.
    3. Select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button.
    4. When Disk Utility loads select the drive (usually, the out-dented entry) from the side list.
    5. Click on the Erase tab in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
    6. Set the partition scheme to GUID.
    7. Set the Format type to APFS (SSDs only) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
    8. Click on the Apply button, then click on the Done button when it activates.
    9. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
    10. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

That is an older version of Disk Utility. Boot the computer in the same way.

    1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities' folder.
    2. After Disk Utility loads select the drive (out-dented entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the side list.
    3. Click on the Partition tab in Disk Utility's main window toolbar.
    4. Set the number of partitions to one (1) from the Partition Scheme drop-down menu.
    5. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or APFS (SSD only.)
    6. Click on the Apply button.

I think these steps should coincide with the version of Disk Utility you will be using.
