iCloud for Windows Outlook setup stuck downloading items

I am attempting to set up iCloud for Windows for Outlook.

On the "downloading items from iCloud" phase, it keeps getting stuck at the exact same spot and not proceeding. I have tried restarting and reinstalling several times as well as clearing Outlook and creating a new profile. All the programs are up to date and I am on Windows 10.

This was fixed for me by: Completely uninstalling any previous versions of iCloud Avoiding the Microsoft store link, and downloading the windows 7/8 iCloud installer direct from apple instead: Download iCloud for Windows – Apple Support (AU) Even though my laptop is windows 10, this version of iCloud includes the 'sync email' checkbox on setup, and successfully synced my iCloud inbox to outlook even though it's designed for windows 7/8 systems - I hope this helps anyone with similar issues. Specs: Windows 10 Education, Lenovo x380 Yoga Thinkpad
