SystemExtr quit unexpectedly

I am copying and pasting the reply that worked for me so you can follow the same instructions. I had to do this 3 times but with lengthy intervals, I think I am safe in saying that the problem is finally gone. Thanks to the help of Grant Bennet-Alder. Good luck.

copy and paste the string above into:

Finder > Go menu > Go to Folder

if found, the whole folder needs to go.

Tested in safe mode and with another user account and the issue didn't happen.

I have also tried to find the file/app in order to delete but cannot find as it is likely very hidden. Also opened force quit but only safari open and even when safari is not open at all the box keeps popping up.

When I click report it shows more info such as:

After following this pathway and replacing the 'USER' with my mac account username I was able to locate the file, drag it to the bin and delete.

I keep getting SystemExtr quit unexpectedly. popping up every 10 seconds or so on my screen; but it doesnt happen in safe mode; I am also unable to install security update 2018-003-10.13.6

when i come to restart i get available updates changed click show details nothing happens!!!

when i manually restart mac update does not occur

I have diagnosed as per instructions and there dont seem to be any issues with hardware

when i click report systemextr quit report i get the following but am unable to trace the location

You have picked up a hitchhiker along the way.That is NOT part of macOS.

~/Library/SystemExtr

is where it is hiding, and that entire folder should be moved to the Trash (do not empty until after a Restart).

I have this same problem with the window showing SystemExtr quit unexpectedly.

It doesn't show up in another user account.

I can't find users within the hard drive icon, only in system preferences, and that isn't the place to take me to the library. I did a search for the library and users, but nothing.

Thank you. I did that, then shut down and the minute it opened I got another window it looked the same but it was for AppYM quit unexpectedly.

Its too early to say if this is going to keep popping up continuously, I certainly hope not.

I have never had any anti virus on my mac, but maybe it is time to get it regardless. I am assuming you recommend MalwareBytes? I don't know anything at all about how these things work so your knowledge will be very helpful to me thank you.

No, none offers better protection that what current versions of MacOS offer built-in.

malwarebytes is mostly a Virus Remover, not so much a protector.

Some things may have slipped past you. Anti-Virus does not protect against that.

if you click on the report button you will see the location of SystemExtr. I had also the same problem and mine was located under ~/Library/SystemExtr so I removed the whole folder and it stopped to show up anymore.

I haven't quite figured out what this is yet, other than unwanted and unsigned, but the paths to remove are:

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.SystemExtr.plist
~/Library/SystemExtr

I also have a free/shareware app called DetectX that will remove it for you without payment at

However you remove it, after deleting those items you need to restart the Mac to clear the launch agent from running memory.

If you had to do it more than once, it sounds as if you have also have a LaunchAgent that needs removing.

You do not seem to have a casual infection. This may require MalwareBytes.
