Restore iPhone from time machine backup

This is the solution to the problem I just had and had read about on a few threads before speaking to apple care.

PROBLEM: You need to restore backups from Time Machine but can't find the Mobile Sync folder in Time Machine.

SOLUTION: (make sure itunes isn't open when you start this, and, ensure that you've selected, in system preferences, to show the Time Machine icon in the Finder bar)

1 - Have the external drive you use for timeMachine backups connected.

2 - In Finder on your Mac, hold the alt key and click 'Go' from the finder menu bar, this will give you the 'Library' option from the drop down menu. Click to open it.

3 - Go to the following folder: Application Support > Mobile Sync

4 - Click on the Time Machine 'clock' icon at the top right of your screen and choose ENER TIME MACHINE with the Mobile Sync folder open on your finder desk top.

5 - This will open time machine to the Mobile Sync folder in your backups.

6 - Right click and select 'Restore' and wait for it to finish restoring back to your native Mac hardrive

7 - Open iTunes and go to the preferences (top left of menu Bar, - iTunes > Preferences).

8 - Click on Devices, and you should see your backups there. Close preferences.

9 - Select your iPhone in iTunes and choose 'Restore backup' in the summary screen.

10 - Select the backup you want and hey presto.
