Just updated my iPhone XS to 12.1.1 and when it finished the messages icon had a red exclamation mark against it. Tried closing all apps, shutting down and starting up again as suggested in an older (now inactive) post but still there. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

That was easy. It was a new unlocked phone without a simm card. Just put in a simm card and the exclamation mark has gone. However I am positive the ! wasn't there before the upgrade.
