iCloud password change screen does not show keyboard mode

When logging in to iCloud after security update it force asked for password change.

Screen did not allow any go back or escape. Also did not show what language keyboard was in.

Just happened to type a number in the password hint box so realised it was in hiragana. If I had carried on I would have ended up with a gibberish password that I would have need unable to reproduce.

Powered off computer as only way out.
