I can't get the screen orientation to lock. Any ideas? I followed the IOS 12.1.1 manual. thanks

What happens when you swipe down from the top right corner to open the control center and tap on the orientation lock icon?
I think with all the problems that you are having, I would suggest getting an appointment at an Apple Store for help. That way they can see what is or is not working.
Orientation lock does not work nor does Settings Control panel
Lock screen icon does not show in status bar.
