letters are doubled when searching in launcher

When I type something in the search bar of the launcher I always get them doubled. When I want to delete one letter again, it also deletes two at a time.

I don't think it is a keyboard issue because the problem only occurs in the launcher.

Another issue that is most likely connected to it is that sometimes when I type fast in another window, suddenly some app starts launching. When I open the launcher after that the app that just launched is the first one that appeared after typing a single letter which I actually didn't do and must have happened in the background.

What exactly could be causing that issue? Anyone else experienced something similar?

I have the latest Mojave installed.

Could easily be a flaky keyboard, but in Das Prefs>Keyboard>Keyboard tab, try adjusting the Key Repeat rate.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

Thanks for your quick reply.

Changing the keyboard settings in any direction does not affect the weird behavior.

I made a new admin account as you suggested, and yeah on that account I don't have any problems.

Another thing I've noticed is that when ever I use app specific shortcuts like CMD+W to close a tab, I can hear the typical blob-ish sound that plays when you use a shortcut that doesn't exist.

I assume this happens because the launcher somehow runs parallel and receives what I type. Maybe the launcher gets the typed letter from two directions that way and displays it twice.

Does the blobs sound happen if Launchpad isn't running?

I find this file that might affect this...

/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/LaunchPadLayout.plist

No idea if it's safe to move.remove, but you need to quit Launchpad if you want to try moving it.

What all is checked in Sys Prefs>Spotlight>Search tab?
