Yes, this is a real bummer: since Mojave , it is no longer possible for third-party screensavers to access the photos stored in the Photos app. I have researched and tried a lot of things, to no avail.

(Note, this limitation only applies to 3rd party screensavers, not to regular apps, and, of course, not to Apple's own screensavers.)

Please request Apple to bring this feature back (for 3rd party screensavers).

In the meantime, what you can do is:

export all the photos from Photos.app to a separate, regular folder; then point ArtSaver to that folder.

I just got off the phone with Apple Support on this very issue. I was told that this is the new normal, and that Apple has removed the option of using the left and right arrow keys to view a photo that just went by /or advance quickly to view upcoming screensaver photos.

While we wait and hope for Apple to fix this, we can use the work of this german guy:

It does not look as fancy as the original, but has a lot of possibilities of tweaking and does the job....

So, I have Mojave running on 5 Macs and the arrow keys do not work as you stated. I still have a Mac which is running Yosemite and the arrow keys do work. So either the function was removed in Mojave or it's a bug. I don't know which. You can send Apple a bug report from the feedback page.

I wrote it myself, it runs under High Sierra, but should also run under Mojave.

It has arrow keys, and a few other options - I hope they also work under Mojave.

(There is one caveat so far: if you want to use it with the Photos app, and use the iCloud feature of Photos, you need to "Download all photos" for the album that you want ArtSaver to display.)

Hi dickandlinda, while Apple never participates in the discussions here, I believe that they do monitor these forums. (They did actually respond to one of my postings in another discussion group, asking for more information.) In the case of the arrow keys gone missing, there is no further information needed. As a programmer I can just say that you don't remove a feature without a reason (even though I cannot think of a reason in this case myself). But if enough people voice their wish here and provide feedback at https://www.apple.com/feedback/ , then I am sure Apple will reconsider.

Same, I used this function ALL the time. The good news is that the arrow function that used to be available on the screensaver, is available with the slideshow function within Photos. :-)

Maybe Apple removed it from the Screensaver, so we would use Photos more often ;-)

Everyone who’s upset about the loss of the ability to use the arrow keys to scroll back or forward through screen saver photos, please post your comments on the Mac feedback site, otherwise Apple won’t see them.

Do you mean, ArtSaver does not work any more?

If yes, could you please send me the system log?

This has happened to me too - arrows on the keyboard allowed me to go to the previous (or next) photo in the slide-show screensaver. As of updating to 10.14.2 it just kills the screensaver and returns me to my desktop - big bummer and I hope it returns to the previous functionality.

i was soooo disappointed when I got Mohave and the newest iMac and my arrow keys wouldn’t work with my screensaver. That was a way cool function as we sit and watch the screensaver go through backpacking/nature pictures. I will post to Apple also. It is real and we want it back!!!!!!
