Thunderbolt Ethernet on Macbook Pro not working

The Thunderbolt ports both show inactive even though the cable is plugged in. How do I fix this?


I have tried to different Thunderbolt ethernet adapters and a number of ethernet ports and ethernet cables on various hubs and routers. There is no activity. Ethernet cables work fine with a USB ethernet adapter (at lower speed).
