Only 30Hz in 1080p and 4K on LG 27UD59-B monitor

I have a Macbook Pro 13 (2018) and I'm so glad that I bought my new LG 27UD59-B monitor, but unfortunately it does not able to do 30Hz on 4K but not even in fullHD (I've got 60hz only in 1600x900 resolution, but it's very poor on a 4K display). I have the Apple USB-C-AV HDMI adapter, and high-speed HDMI cable v3.0.

On the other hand my previous ASUS FullHD monitor supports 60Hz on 1080p in HiDPi, so I don't understand.

What would be the solution?

Is HDMI the only way to connect to this display?

I had a display that would perform poorly (rather like you described) via HDMI, but gives excellent performance via a mini-DP to USB-C adapter.
