The bar is seen with almost all apps except while using camera, gallery and you tube in full screen mode. It doesn’t appear during app switcher. In some apps when the background is light, the bar becomes grey or black. An e.g., below

1.) When do you see this bar? When using specific apps or using the app switcher?
2.) Does the bar go over the text and seem out of place?
3.) Are you able to use the touch screen where the bar is located, or is it unresponsive?

Thanks for sending that screenshot. I understand what you mean now. This bar is meant to indicate where the bottom of your screen is since there is no Home Button. It is normal and is a feature of the iPhone X, XS, XR, and XR Max.
