iCloud Drive

Hello, I have been struggling with 16 GB on my iPhone for years and I use to back up all my photos on my laptop and then delete them and this cycle goes on and on.

Is it a possibility to buy iCloud Drive storage (for example 50 GB) and use them to upload my pictures from the iPhone, but will the pictures also use the storage on my iPhone? After being uploaded I will be able to see them only by using Wi-Fi or Cellular Data?

I am also taking into consideration upgrading to an iPhone with 128 GB...

Thank you,

DT

Hi digital_travel,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have have some questions regarding iCloud storage. I’m happy to help. If you store your photos in iCloud, it can save space on your iPhone. You can read more about that in the article below, under the section labeled “Save space on your device”:

Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

The photos will still be able to be seen on your iPhone, while full resolution photos will be stored in iCloud. iCloud is a syncing service, so if you delete a photo from your device, it will delete it from iCloud as well.

If I’m misunderstanding your question, feel free to reply with additional details.

Take care.
