Hi,
It is possible to have Messages locked out of the iMessages Servers.
It mostly happens when an Upgrade or an Update have taken place.
It is not clear as to why this happens.
It can also be created if you Migrate a Mac User Account from one computer to another.
If this includes the Keychain then it includes and IDS: yourApple ID-Auth Token item that holds a combo of the Apple ID, Password and the Serial Number of that Mac which then does not match the Mac you are using.
This Users Tip looks at some of this info and finally suggests ringing Apple Support (Apple Care) to sort the issue.
Reinstalling the OS does not work once the Account is blocked at the iMessage Servers.
As it is an apple ID issue then the issue is free to fix. (it also falls under the 90 Days of "Purchase" if you have just Upgraded or Updated the OS)
The process is long winded as you have to work upwards through the different layers of Support at Apple before you find someone who can look at the server info and see if you ID - when used by your Mac - has become blocked.
It is a Device Specific issue meaning other Macs will still work.
As the iMessages are Standalone servers the issue also is App Specific as well meaning that other apps can and do connect to the internet such as the iCloud part of System Preferences and iTunes and the App Store.
