Why do I have a different Apple Id password on different devices?

I have foolishly assumed that when I change the password to my Apple ID on one device that it would be changed on all of my devices.

But then I go to login with the password that I updated and it doesn't work. What is it supposed to do? If I change my Apple Id password to AppleIsCool567 from AppleIsCool566 on my MacOS then it should be AppleIsCool567 on my iPhone, right?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Do you mean just restart the device that the password wasn't updated on? If I try to open an app on the device that the password wasn't updated on it automatically goes to a login screen. That's where I've been entering my new password only to find that it will only accept the old password.

I'll try restarting the whole device next time.
