Need a calendar server for Mojave
I just got a 2018 Mac Mini to replace our aging Mini server. I really didn't want to upgrade our server to Mojave, but there was no choice… meaning our calendar server is now dead, dead, dead.
Apple put up a page with four recommended replacements. After reviewing them, I can only describe my reaction as horror.
Kerio Connect is a Microsoft Exchange replacement that also offers email and IM, for "only" $465 plus $150 per year indefinitely. Way more than I want for way more than I can afford (not to mention I'd rather introduce herpes into our workflow than Exchange).
DavMail offers similar services as a front-end to Exchange, which we do not have.
Radicale looks interesting, but every place on the website where they discuss how to install or use it on MacOS, it says "to be provided." (I am aghast that this package, in this state, earned a recommendation from Apple.) Also, there is a lot of weasel wording on the order of "this was a student project / it implements parts of the standard / we don't do A, B, or C" that FUDs me out.
CalendarServer shows promise, but it's the most opaque of the bunch. The instructions for "downloading a version of Calendar and Contacts Server to run on a server" actually creates some sort of non-executable development branch for programmers, and the "admin guide" assumes you are a software developer who knows all about unrelated packages and how to obtain them. Again, I am horrified that Apple actually recommended this package as a replacement for its mostly plug-and-play Server. It's like Ford recalling your car and replacing it with a blueprint (not even a kit)!
Does anybody have any suggestions for usable replacements for Calendar Server? (Cloud-based services are not an option, sorry.)
