Every time I run a video converter, the CPU temps go about 100º. I've used a couple of temp monitors with fans and I see the fans at 2700 just to get the CPU's into the 90's. This seems very high to me. Anyone know anything about this?
Are the vents unobstructed? Intake vents are on the bottom edge of the case; the exhaust vent is on the back near the stand's hinge. Don't place anything thicker than your hand between the case bottom edge and the work surface, and clean the intake vents every three month of so--they get dusty.
Unneeded software like anti-virus apps or so-called cleaning apps running in the background can run up temps; so can Google Chrome.

encoding video is a very taxing task, it works as hard as it possibly can which is why having a very fast cpu makes the encoding much faster.
Hi Thanks for getting back, there's nothing obstructing the vents, it's 2 weeks old so they don't need cleaning and there's none of the ally anti-virus or 'cleaning' apps on it. My "old" iMac never seemed to get to these temps. Is it because they are now so powerful that they generate this much heat?
100˚ F is perfectly normal for a CPU and nothing to be worried about. I’m here sitting at my 2013 iMac 27 and doing nothing but typing this response, and my CPU temps are 97˚ F and fans at 1200rpm.
